Di Matteo appointed MK Dons manager

Former Chelsea midfielder Roberto Di Matteo has taken his first step into management after accepting the vacant post at MK Dons. The Italian succeeds Paul Ince, who left the club to move into the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers.

Di Matteo will take over a club that is set for their League One debut after winning promotion last season, although he has signed only a one-year contract with an option for a further year.

The club, who will present Di Matteo, a former Italian international who spent six years at Stamford Bridge, to the media on Thursday, were delighted with the appointment.

"Like the club itself, Roberto is young, ambitious and hungry to succeed," read a statement on its' official website.

"We are enormously excited about the team moving forward under his leadership."
