Johnson: I'm not England's saviour
Martin Johnson insists he is not 'England's saviour', saying it is the Elite Rugby Squad who must do the talking - and not him. As Johnson's first official act in charge he axed 13 of those who toured New Zealand last month as the 2003 World Cup winning captain looks to stamp his authority on the underperforming side.
But he warned that just because he has been brought in to salvage the England set-up, it is results not reputations that will count.
He said: "I'm aware of the perception of what I'm expected to bring to the job but ultimately it comes down to how well we play on the pitch.
"That's what I'll be judged on. I'm here to make this team better and to improve each player.
"We have a good squad of players. There is depth there too, although in some areas we have more depth than others."
