Domenech to stay on as France coach

Raymond Domenech is to stay on as France coach despite his side's abysmal performance at Euro 2008, it has been announced. It was widely expected Domenech would be dismissed after his side after coming bottom of their group in the tournament, scoring only one goal and securing just one point in their three games.

And Domenech followed up his side's performance on the pitch by bizarrely proposing to his girlfriend, TV presenter Estelle Denis, during a post-match interview.

But the 56-year-old has been given a stay of execution and will guide his side into the 2010 World Cup, the French Football Federation have confirmed.

"Jean-Pierre Escalettes of the Federal Committee can confirm that Raymond Domenech will continue as France's national team coach as the team prepare to qualify for the 2010 World Cup," read the beginning of a statement on the Federation's official website which was over 1,500 words long in total.

"His targets have been re-defined and his managerial responsibilities have been re-evaluated."
