Newcastle signing Gutierrez in compensation row
Newcastle's 'Spiderman' signing Jonas Gutierrez is facing a multi-million pound compensation claim from Real Mallorca. The Spanish side are demanding 15 million euros - around £11.5m - following the Argentinian international's move this week for an "undisclosed fee''.
Gutierrez, 24, is said to have activated Article 17 of FIFA's transfer regulations, which allows a player aged under 28 to buy out the remainder of his contract.
The winger, nicknamed Spiderman because he pulls on a webbed mask when he scores, had two years left on his Real deal.
FIFA are likely to be asked to settle the row, with Real sports director Nando Pons confirming: "We are unhappy with the attitude of Jonas Gutierrez and we will pursue this as a complaint.
"We have claimed 12m euros for the unilateral termination of the contract 'without just cause'. Mallorca will defend their interests.''
President Vicente Grande added: "We will not be quiet and nobody is going to take us for fools. We at least want the 10 million euros that Porstmouth offered us in the winter. This case has only just begun."
Newcastle are due to visit Mallorca for a four-team pre-season tournament from August 1-3.
But Gutierrez will be spared a potentially-hostile return to his old stamping ground due to extended leave after World Cup qualifying duty.
