Arsenal complete Nasri deal
Arsenal have finally completed the signing of Samir Nasri from Marseille. The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to North London all summer after a fee, believed to be worth around £13m, was agreed between the clubs, but Euro 2008 held up an official announcement.
It has been widely reported that Nasri, who made two appearances for France during this summer's tournament, will be a direct replacement for Alexander Hleb, who is rumoured to be set to seal a switch to Spanish side Barcelona.
Arsene Wenger has been chasing the 2006/07 French Young Player of the Year for some time, and has stated it was the player's technique that first alerted him to the talent that has seen Nasri labelled 'the new Zidane'.
"We are delighted to be signing Samir Nasri," Wenger, who has had to deal with a summer of rumours linking a number of his players with moves abroad, told the club's official website.
"He is young, quick and technically an outstanding player. He has shown great potential with his performances for Marseille and the French national team over the past two seasons and he will add great quality to our squad."
And Nasri, who will start pre-season training with the squad on July 21, insisted the move was 'an important step' as he was joining 'a massive club'.
He said: "I'm very happy to become an Arsenal player, it means such a lot to me. This is a very important step in my life as a football player because Arsenal is a massive club.
"I really hope everything will go well for me here. I will my best for Arsenal and its fans and I am honoured to be part of such a great football club."
