Easley steers New York Mets to seventh straight win

Damion Easley shrugged off the pain from a thigh muscle injury to hit a two-out solo homer to steer the New York Mets to their seventh successive victory, 2-1 over the Colorado Rockies. Easley drove relief pitcher Taylor Buchholz to left-center to leave Colorado ruing missed opportunities.

They had loaded bases in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings but failed to capitalize on that as they allowed the Mets to take control - much to the anger of their manager, Clint Hurdle.

"I'll tell you what: We're looking at the wrong thing if we're focused on Buchholz right here," he said.

"We left too many men on base, too many opportunities, it never should've come down to that."

His mood was in stark contrast to Easley, who attributes the Mets' fine run of form to a relaxed attitude within the squad.

"It was probably a long time coming, to get that relaxed," Easley said.

"It's one thing to be relaxed, like you're sitting on the couch. It's another thing to be relaxed and play with confidence. That's what we're doing right now."

Relaxed athletes always come out on top. Relaxed as in able to play smoothly without worry or stress in a tight situation. I be the Rockies fans weren't too pleased with that game either!
