Premier League duo chase Celtic star

Everton and Aston Villa are set to battle it out to secure the signature of Celtic striker Scott McDonald. Everton boss David Moyes wants the Australia international to replace the departing Andy Johnson with the club set to net £10m by selling the forward

The Australian scored 31 goals last season for the SPL champions in his first year at Parkhead following his £700,000 move from Motherwell last August.

And Celtic boss Gordon Strachan could decided to cash in on the 24-year-old striker after completing the signing of Manchester City forward Georgios Samaras.

But any move for McDonald depends on whether Everton can offload Johnson and if they fail Aston Villa could steal a march on their Premier League rivals.

Boss Martin O'Neill is a big admirer of the player following his spell as Celtic manager and could make a bid to scupper Everton's hopes of landing the former Motherwell man.

Scott McDonald is a good player. I'd rather see him go to Aston Villa myself.
