Hamilton takes pole at Hockenheim

Lewis Hamilton produced a stunning final lap to snatch pole position from Felipe Massa in the final second of qualifying at Hockenheim. The McLaren driver clocked a lap of 1:15.666 to claim the ninth pole of his career and his third of the season.

The Briton, who shares the lead at the top of the drivers' championship with Kimi Raikkonen and Massa, will start with the Brazilian right behind him, while defending champion Raikkonen will start from sixth after enduring a difficult day.

Hamilton's team-mate Heikki Kovalainen starts third on the grid ahead of Toytota's Jarno Trulli and Fernando Alonso, while BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica will start seventh behind Raikkonen.

Red Bull's Mark Webber finished eighth, with team-mate David Coulthard landing himself with a 10th place start at Sunday's race.
