A Nottinghamshire-based wheelie bin cleaner has turned a £2 coin into £1.3 million by placing a six-horse accumulator bet. 39-year-old Craig Brazier placed the Scoop6 bet in his home town of Mansfield with the change he had from buying fish bait. Speaking of his win, Brazier exclaimed, "It's the best two quid I have ever spent."
Brazier, a regular visitor to his local racecourse in Southwell, recalled watching the final race while his partner Tracy enjoyed a nap. With five wins notched up, his fortunes fell on the fate of Chatez, trained by legendary trainer Alan King. "Tracy was dozing off on the sofa and even though I was into the last leg with five winners already, she said, 'you're not lucky enough to win that'... I woke her up watching the last race screaming, 'he's won it!'."
Brazier and his family were invited to King's Barbury Castle stables in Wiltshire to meet the 7-1 winning horse. Upon meeting Chatez, Brazier said, “I just love being given the opportunity to pat the horse that made me a millionaire and my daughters want me to give him a J2O as he’d need it after his run.”
Amazingly, the immediate wealth does not seem to have gone to Brazier’s head, as he revealed his plans to keep on servicing wheelie bins. He explained, “I started bin cleaning in 1996 and I will carry on cleaning wheelie bins as I do it part-time four days a week and enjoy the job.” Although he did admit that he will be using some of his £1,342,599 winnings to buy a new house for his family and treat them to a well-deserved holiday.
The lucky winner also revealed that his partner has never been too keen on his betting. “I’ve been with Tracy since 1996, and up until this weekend she’s not been a fan of my gambling, but I also told her I’d have a big win. I just cannot believe how big this is.”
