From Cluedo to the adventures of Sherlock Holmes, it seems that Britain can't get enough of a good murder mystery – but how often do you get the chance to bet on your hunches? Thanks to a new Ladbrokes Sports' betting market, keen viewers of ITV's detective series Broadchurch can now put their money on who they think is the programme's murderer.
Until 9pm on 25th March, anyone who has been following the intriguing murder mystery can visit Ladbrokes Sports to bet on the identity of Danny Latimer’s killer.
The answer has so far been a tightly guarded secret, with cast and crew members themselves reportedly only told the identity in the final moments of filming - the relevant scripts were watermarked and kept in a safe to prevent the killer's name from getting out.
At the time of writing, the Broadchurch betting market has the victim’s father, Mark Latimer, down as chief suspect at 4/1, while David Tennant’s troubled investigator, DI Alec Hardy, is currently the rank outsider at 50/1. Although revealing the show’s ‘hero’ to be the killer might be a twist too far for some, it’s a possibility that many viewers are refusing to rule out in their discussions online, and Hardy could be a potentially rewarding pick to bet on.
A poll conducted by Radio Times currently shows that plumber Nige Carter (5/1) and shop-owner Jack Marshall (14/1) are strongly suspected by a large portion of the show’s audience, while barely anyone seems to think that it could be local editor Maggie Radcliffe, who is also offered at 14/1.
