The end of the football season often sees a flurry of big bets as punters try to cash in on the last vital games. While the final matches of the Premier League were nothing to write home about, one football fan from Ireland managed to net a whopping £577,215.63 from an initial bet of just £1,000. Not alone in their winnings, another punter joined the fun as a £200 bet at 1000/1 landed an incredible £200,930.62 totaling the winnings over the month to around £800,000.
The 9-fold accumulator correctly predicted that Spurs would beat Villa, Stoke would trounce West Brom, Arsenal would walk over Norwich, while Man City would beat West Ham to take home the EPL title. The other five correct guesses were that title hopefuls Liverpool would win against Newcastle, Chelsea would beat Cardiff, and that Everton would dominate Hull. Surprisingly, the Leinster punter also managed to pick two draws, one between Fulham and Crystal Palace, ending in 2-2, while the other, more surprising result, was the 1-1 draw between Man Utd and Southampton.
He was not the only one celebrating at the end of the season. A £200 wager was also placed in December 2013 with odds of over 1000/1. The odd football accumulator stretched its predictions over eight different leagues, with guesses as to who would finish top, bottom, be promoted, or finish in the top four. He correctly bet that Cardiff would finish bottom of the Premier League, but that Leicester would be promoted from the Championship, Brentford would move up from League One, and that Luton would also be promoted from the Conference League. In the Conference South, the guess that Eastleigh would walk away outright winners, and likewise that Dundee would finish top of the Scottish Championship. Straying north of the border, the possibly psychic punter took a chance that Stranraer would finish in the top four of Scottish League One, but that Peterhead would win outright in Scottish League Two. Whether this punters was just lucky or were reading from an Almanac delivered via a flying DeLorean, his eight bets gave him a great cash score of £200,930.62.
