The Vikings' manhandling the Jets a week ago was more of an indication of how well Minnesota is clicking than New York struggling. The Vikings 37-17 win was their third straight, ending a two-game win streak by the Jets.
Unfortunately for Gang Green, it gets no easier in Chicago on Sunday. Sam Darnold simply can’t afford to turn the ball over – 3 INTs -- like he did last week. The Bears defense gives up just 87.5 rushing YPG, so teams struggle with balanced attacks.
While Darnold got some help with the signing of FA WR Rishard Matthews, the Jets lose Bilal Powell to the IR with a neck injury. Their secondary keeps rotating like a game of musical chairs on who is healthy and who is hurt.
The injury bug has impacted the other side of the ball as well, key positions from WR to RB to OL. Isaiah Crowell takes over as the main back – 459 Rushing yards this year – but is also banged up with a foot injury.
888Sport has the over/under on the Jets at 20.5.. We gave you this under total for the Jets last week, and it hit against the Vikings defense. Zero reason why an even tougher task this week would net any different result, especially when you continue to factor in the injuries Darnold is dealing with around him.
To the contrary is a Chicago offense that saw Trey Burton explode against the Patriots – 9 catches 126 yd 1 TD – and two other guys going over 60 yards. The Bears put up a full 40 yards more in the air per game than the Jets, 265.7 to 221.7 YPG.
The Jets simply aren’t equipped to survive a shootout with good defenses. We saw that last week against Minnesota. Bet the Jets to stay under 20.5 with 888Sport.
It’s a tall task to ask any team to put up 30 points on any opponent in the NFL. Points are tough to come by on a consistent basis in this league, unless you’re playing the Jets.
Over their last five games (2-3), they’ve given up an average of 27.8 points per game. Three of those games, including a win, they gave up over 30 points. This is way more about an injured Jets secondary susceptible to the big play in the air than Chicago’s firepower.
The Bears are averaging 28.3 PPG this year, putting up 31/28/48 over their last three contests. Bet Chicago to get 30 this week at +148 with Karamba.
Karamba is offering the Bears at -180, and everything about this game points to Chicago’s defense dominating the Jets offense.
NY is 26th in total offense (329 YPG), and even the good with Darnold (10 TD) is offset by the bad (10 INT) -- seemingly on a weekly basis. The Bears thrive on shutting down the run, then forcing teams into long passing situations.
Darnold is barely completing half of his passes at just 56.1 percent on the year. Even if Chicago gets the ball and goes 3 and out the odds are screaming that Chicago will get multiple chances to score before New York gets its first.
I love Chicago to take advantage of how inconsistent the Jets are on offense and be the first team to score at -180 with Karamba.
The Bears are a top-six scoring offense in the NFL heading into this weekend’s game. At 28.3 PPG, it still seems like some points have been left on the field, so enter the Jets to fix wash away concern.
Even at 3-3 on the year, the Jets have only won the first quarter once! The one time coming against the Colts two weeks ago. With Darnold not having enough around him to the injuries at WR/RB, NY doesn’t have enough to win any quarter let alone the opening one. Something would have to go seriously wrong with the Bears offense if the Jets were ahead in Chicago after one. Bet the Bears -0.5 with 888Sport.
We gave you the Bears being the first and only team this game to hit 30 points. Combine that with the Jets not reaching the 20.5 total points this game, and you may ask, how is the over of 45.5 going to hit? The Jets seem to have a love affair with the over even if they aren’t doing much to help.
It’s hit in four of NY’s last five games. The Bears could hit 31 on Sunday, and all you would need is 16 from the Jets. Not impossible. What’s most likely going to happen is the Bears will hit closer to a 38 mark, and the Jets will limp to the finish line with 13 points.
Bet the Jets-Bears over 45.5 with 888Sport.
