The Broncos have fallen back to down to earth after starting the season 2-0. We thought the Broncos, who went 5-11, might be a sham after they won two home games by a total of four points over the Seahawks and Raiders, who have three total wins between them in the first quarter of the season.
Sure enough, Denver doesn’t look all that great after falling on the road to Baltimore and at home Monday night in an epic collapse against Kansas City.
Big-dollar free-agent quarterback Case Keenum hasn’t throw a touchdown since Week 1 and he has thrown six interceptions. The once vaunted Denver pass defense isn’t getting eaten up.
Hello, darling. The Chiefs are, indeed, the first-quarter darling of the league. Kansas City is one of two 4-0 teams, along with the Los Angeles Rams. The story of Kansas City is second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who started just one game last season.
Mahomes is the early runaway NFL MVP. He is brilliant and exciting. He really is must watch TV. He has amazing supportive cast. Yes. Kansas City’s defense is subpar, but it hasn’t bitten Andy Reid’s team yet.
The Chargers are just chugging along, trying to overcome injuries. Sound familiar? The Chargers are 2-2. That is a bit disappointing because much was expected. But considering this team finished 9-7 after starting 0-4 last season, gives the team confidence.
The offense is perking up and the defense is surviving without Joey Bosa. They may not always look like it, but the Chargers are dangerous.
The Raiders are on the scoreboard. After three sad defeats, Jon Gruden enjoyed his first NFL win after a 10-year absence. But it wasn’t easy. The Raiders beat the visiting Browns, 45-42, in overtime in Week 4.
The Browns had an eight-point with a with less than two minutes left. A series of breaks and big plays gave Oakland a much-needed win. The Raiders exploded for their 45 points after having to settle for 52 points in their first three losses combined. Oakland’s defense, though, is still a sieve. It is a big-play factory.
The only real serious injury issue hovering over the AFC West going into Week 4 is in Los Angeles with defensive end Joey Bosa. The star pass-rusher has been out all regular season with a bone bruise. He is expected to remain out into November, which is a killer for the Chargers.
Oakland third-round pick Brandon Parker will make his first start at right tackle for Donald Penn, who is on the injured reserve with a groin injury.
Here are some things for NFL betting fans to consider for each AFC West team in Week 5:
I like Denver, especially getting 2.5 points. Yes, I’m not a big believer in Denver. But I think it is a better team than the Jets and this isn’t a super tough place to play for a road team. I like the matchups in Denver’s favor. Also, I think the Broncos will be upset after the Kansas City game and play focused.
Back over Denver +2.5 with 888Sport.
I like the Chiefs giving the three points. I’m going to like the Chiefs until they prove otherwise. Jacksonville is a heck of a team and this could be a playoff matchup. The Jaguars have terrific defense and Mahomes will be challenged.
But I like the Chiefs’ offense is probably better than Jacksonville’s defense. Plus, Arrowhead Stadium is a tough palace to play, especially when the Chiefs are balling. Bet Kansas City at -3 with 888Sport.
I have a feeling the Chargers’ offense is about to break loose and go on a run and would bet them at -5.5 with 888Sport. Playing against Oakalnd’s defense won’t hurt that kickstart. I expect a lot of big plays from the Chargers on offense and defense to allow them to cover.
Oakland scored 45 last week and finally started finished drives. Both teams have a lot of offensive weapons and they combined to give up 69 points in Week 4. Plus, these two teams are ranked No. 31 and No. 32 in yardage allowed on pass attempts. It could happen again. Take over 54.5 with 888Sport.
