Things are on the brink of ugly city for the Broncos. Remember, three weeks ago when this team was a perky 2-0 and a feel-good story of the early stages? No one else does, either.
After winning two home games against two subpar teams, Seattle and Oakland, by a total of four points, the Broncos have nosedived. They hit near rock bottom in Week 5 when they were blown out by the Jets.
Rumors are swirling about the job security of second-year coach Vance Joseph, who is just 7-14 as the Broncos’ replacement to the Super-Bowl winner Gary Kubiak. Joseph often looks lost and his team looks overmatched.
Big-dollar free-agent quarterback Case Keenum has not been good and the defense are a shell of its self. Oh, and the Broncos host the 5-0 L.A. Rams on Sunday. Fun.
While the Broncos are suffocating, the Chiefs are one of the top stories of the league. They are one of two undefeated teams in the NFL along with the Rams. The Chiefs are just so impressive. They already have wins over the Chargers, Steelers and Jaguars.
The Chiefs are dynamic on offense and did show some promise defensively against the Jaguars. If this defense can help the Patrick Mahomes offensive show, the Chiefs can become deadly. They can go a long way to securing a bye in the AFC playoffs by going 6-0 with a win at the New England Patriots on Sunday.
If the Chiefs beat the Patriots to go 6-0, everyone will have to play attention to Andy Reid’s team.
The Chargers may be awakening. They’re 3-2 and are starting to click offensively. The Chargers looked great in an easy 26-10 win over Oakland on Sunday. Philip Rivers is humming. Plus, the defensive is coming along without Joey Bosa.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this is one of the AFC’s more impressive teams in a few weeks.
The Raiders are in the dumps. After a thrilling, comeback win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 4 to give them their first win, the Raiders were blown out by the Chargers to fall to 1-4. There doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of hope in Oakland.
Jon Gruden’s return has been a disaster. Derek Carr is not better and the Khalil Mack-less defensive is allowing 29.9 points a game and 7.0 yards per play, which is on pace to be the worst average in the NFL since the 1970 merger.
The major injury issue hovering over the AFC West going into Week 4 is in Los Angeles with defensive end Joey Bosa. The star pass-rusher has been out all regular season with a bone bruise. He is expected to remain out into November, which is a killer for the Chargers.
Oakland third-round pick Brandon Parker will make his first start at right tackle for Donald Penn, who is on the injured reserve with a groin injury.
Another stud pass-rusher in the division, Kansas City’s Justin Houston, is currently unlikely to play against New England in a huge game Sunday night because of a hamstring injury. In fact, Houston could be out for a few weeks, which isn’t good for a defense that is not playing at a high level.
Also, the Chiefs are playing their first game without standout guard Laurent Duverney-Tardiff, who is now on the injured reserve.
Here are some things for NFL betting fans to consider in the AFC West this week:
Karamba has the Rams as a 7-point road favorite over the Broncos, and I like the Rams. They’re so much better than the Broncos.
Denver’s defense has been getting shredded in the passing game. Sean McVay will have Jared Goff do bad things to the Broncos’ defensive backs. In addition to talent on the field, I think the Rams are much better coached than the Broncos are. There could be some snow in Denver on Sunday, but that might not keep this game close. Back the Rams -7 with Karamba.
888Sport has the Chiefs as a 3.5-point road underdog at New England. I know the Patriots are coming alive. But I think this line is based on reputation. The Chiefs are a better team right now and they are smoking hot. You got to take the points here and bet Kansas City +3.5 with 888Sport.
Most top NFL bookmakers have the Chargers as a 1-point road favorite at the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are not bad. This will not be an easy game for the Chargers on the road.
But I do think the Chargers are the better team here. So, the right play is to take the Chargers and give the point with 888Sport.
The Seahawks are a 1-point favorite over the Raiders in London. The Raiders are the home team in this game. But the Seahawks are the better team and they are playing better. If Seattle can handle the time adjustment, it should win this game. Bet the Seahawks with 888Sport.
