There's some good news for those of you still upset that the World Cup is over. The first ever FIFA eWorld Cup is about to begin on the 2nd of August to see who can crown themselves the best FIFA player in the world. The contest will take place in London in the O2 with celebrity matches taking place as well. However, in this preview we'll focus on the actual competition and the 32 competitors left of the 20 million players that participated in the qualifying stage.
As this is the first ever FIFA eWorld Cup the stakes are high and the very best in world eSports will be attending the event. This is the kind of event that the FIFA community has been waiting for and hopefully it will live up to the hype.
The Argentinian Nicolas "Nicolas99FC" Villalba, representing Transfermarkt, won the PS4 Global Series Playoffs to reach the grand final in style. Many bookmakers have him down as the favorite to win the whole event and for good reason.
He showed great form during 2018 winning the FUT Champions Cup Barcelona (PS4), Copa TyC 2018 and of course the aforementioned qualifier. Out of the four events he has attended this year he won three and finished top 4 in the last. That's a very impressive record unmatched by the rest of the competition.
He is known for his very strong defensive qualities and it will be no easy task to take him down for any opponent he'll face. As the top seed in Group C he looks set to reach the playoffs. Nicolas99FC to win the whole tournament at 5/1 with Betway is a solid bet considering both his form and experience of grand finals.
Taichi "Web" Aoki, the Japanese PS4-player, also had an impressive performance during the Global Series Playoffs with a 6-1 record in the group stage and earning himself a top 4 finish at the event. Although he is inexperienced, his last showing really proved that he could compete with the world elite.
Few believe he is a serious contender for the title this weekend considering his lack of achievements in the past. But watching him play in the qualifier, it feels like he could be the surprise of the tournament. Web winning is 16/1 at Paddy Power, and is worth considering for those of you who like to bet on the underdog with higher odds. Without a doubt he will be a superstar in the future.
Unfortunately there isn’t a massive selection of betting options for the FIFA eWorld Cup but Bet365 are offering a great alternative to the outright winner bets, namely which group the winner will emerge from. Both of the earlier mentioned players in this article are from group C, however top eSports bookmakers favour group B ahead of it.
Group B does indeed have some serious contenders. Experienced British player Spencer "Gorilla" Ealing representing FaZe Clan is seen as the second most likely to take home the trophy according to the bookies. However, 2018 has not been as great as 2017 for him. Contrary to 2017 he hasn't won a single event this year so far although he has had two top 4 finishes and reached the final in Gfinity Elite Series. You can never count out Gorilla with his experience but he doesn't seem to be at his best.
The group also contains the Saudi Arabian Xbox player Mossad "MSDossary" Aldossary playing for Team Rogue. The Saudi Arabian had a splendid performance at the FUT Champions Cup in Manchester and won the whole tournament in impressive fashion. His quarterfinal loss at the Global Series Playoffs felt more like a one-off than anything else. Betting on MSDossary as the outright winner is not a bad bet at all for the 7/1 that Mr Green is offering.
However betting that the winner will come from group C still feels like the best option. This is available at Bet365 for 5/2 while the same bet for group B is offered at 15/8. Even though group B has some serious contenders like the two mentioned above along with the French player Fouad "Rafsou" Fares, Nicolas99FC is the strongest contender without a doubt.
