A week after going 2-2 in our moneyline picks and cashing with the Atlanta Falcons as an underdog, we’ll look to improve upon our numbers for you NFL betting fans. We’re back in the saddle with the Falcons, who are now laying a small number in Cleveland.
Atlanta Falcons at Cleveland Browns
The moneyline: Falcons -250, Browns +200
This is a matchup of two teams heading in different directions. The Falcons have won three straight games while scoring an average of 31.7 points per game in the process. More importantly, their defense has tightened up. After allowing at least 37 points in three straight losses, the Falcons have allowed an average of 21 points per game in their last three contests.
As for the Browns, there’s not a lot to like. They’ve dropped four in a row while allowing an average of 33.5 points per game. Their defense, which played well early on in the season, has been broken as both rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield and the running game have struggled. They’re averaging 17.6 points per game over their last five.
On top of that, firing head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley had little impact last week. It’ll be more of the same this week. Bet the Falcons -250 with Karamba.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Indianapolis Colts
The moneyline: Colts -150, Jaguars +125
The Jaguars should get Leonard Fournette back this week, but it’s hard to believe that he’s the solution to all of their problems. This is a team that’s scored just 42 points in their last four games combined. Quarterback Blake Bortles and the passing game have struggled mightily as the team ranks 16th in passing yards per game and 28th in quarterback rating.
On defense, while the Jags have the league’s No. 1 ranked defense, it hasn’t looked like it as the defense has allowed 28.5 points per game in their last four. This is a team that has just 19 sacks on the year, which is 25th in the NFL. If they’re not going to get to Andrew Luck, they probably don’t win this game.
The Colts are just more upbeat right now. They’ve won two straight and look like a young team on the rise. The Jags have turmoil and Fournette – who might be eased back into action – can’t fix all of their issues. Take the Colts -150 with 888Sport.
Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles
The moneyline: Eagles -305, Cowboys +235
The Cowboys are one of five NFL teams through nine weeks which have not won a single road game straight up. They are 0-4 away from home. They are also reeling after being soundly outplayed at home by the Tennessee Titans.
Rumors are swirling around head coach Jason Garrett, whom many people think is a goner at the end of this season. The Cowboys seem to have a lame-duck head coach unless he can get them to the playoffs but they’re 3-5. It’s unlikely. When that happens, players often mentally check out of a season and lose their fire, waiting for the next man to take over.
The other issue is that the Cowboys just aren’t very good. Dak Prescott has regressed, the offensive line is a mess and the defense is nothing more than average.
The Eagles are coming off a week of rest, and while they’ve struggled this season, they have won two of three with the lone loss being a blow 17-0 fourth quarter lead to Carolina. They should be buoyed by the news of the acquisition of Golden Tate. They should be feeling like they’re on the rise while the Cowboys are in decline.
Sometimes these NFC East games are closer than expected but I can’t see the Eagles losing this game outright. Bet Philadelphia -305 with Karamba.
New York Giants at San Francisco 49ers
The moneyline: 49ers -160, Giants +130
This is a game between a 1-7 team, the Giants, and a 2-7 team, the Niners. There is not a lot to recommend either team in this matchup. However, the Niners have a new quarterback, Nick Mullens, who led the team to a 34-3 win over the Oakland Raiders a week ago.
Mullens is the wild card in this matchup. He could play well for a second straight game, but new quarterbacks generally struggle. A great example of this is Sam Darnold, who lit the world on fire in Week 1 but has struggled ever since.
The Giants are not a very strong team by any means but fresh off a bye week, they should be able to put forth one of their better efforts against one of the weakest teams in the league. I’ll take a flier with them as a dog. Take the Giants +130 with 888Sport.
