December 10th, 2015
We all know that Christmas is a time for giving, and that feeling of festive benevolence will be out in force within the NYX Gaming Network this December, courtesy of a brand new Multi-Table Tournament (MTT) series. The former Ongame Network houses some of the leading online poker sites in Europe, and from December 17 it will be spreading some seasonal cheer with a special tournament series worth €180,000.
Kicking off on December 17 and coming to a close on December 23, the first NYX Poker Series boasts a total of 22 events designed to satisfy players of all persuasions – with buy-ins ranging from a very reasonable €5.50 (an appealing option for all the grinders out there), to a slightly more lavish €212. While the preliminary events are bound to pique the attention of the average grinder – that's a competitor who plays tight, low-risk poker to make a small but steady profit – it's the €100,000 Main Event that will really get the juices flowing.
Getting underway at 7:00pm on Sunday December 20, the €212 event is likely to attract the cream of the NYX Network. However, with the right combination of luck and skill, this MTT could provide a timely bankroll boost to almost anyone who antes-up. Naturally, to ensure that the first incarnation of the NXY Poker Series goes off with a bang, the organisers have put together a comprehensive satellite system designed to give as many people as possible a way to play.
Of course, it's not uncommon for tournaments to focus on the classic Texas Hold'em format – but in this instance it looks like NYX cares about more than just the Hold'em hounds, and is catering for players with a range of tastes. We all know that variety is the spice of life and NYX is continuing its rationale of opening up the event up to as many players as possible by including a slew of poker variants, including: Pot Limit Omaha, 7 Card Stud and event 5 Card Draw.
For a final touch of glitter and sparkle, NYX has added a Player of the Series prizepool to proceedings. Open to any player who competes in at least one event, the leaderboard will reward the top 10 performers across the 22 events, with players earning points based on where they finish in each event. Incremental prizes for the most consistent players across the series will start at €180, but the pièce de résistance is a trip to Malta for the Grand Live event in March, 2016. Worth an impressive €2,200, the prize package will include entry to the Main Event in Malta, accommodation and money to cover your travel costs.
For a maiden online poker tournament festival, the NYX Poker Series certainly has all the makings of a classic and, when the action gets underway on December 17, there will no doubt be a rush of activity across the entire network.
