While there were a number of high profile poker tournaments taking place around the globe this month, it was in the online world of poker tournaments where the action really took off. The weekly Sunday Millions tournament saw a huge number of players sign up, with 6,463 people taking part in the $215 no-limit Texas Hold‘em Poker tournament. However, Israeli player "hamanof" managed to climb to the top of the deck in less than 12 hours, winning an incredible $196,608.60.
His mammoth win was thanks to the sheer number of players taking part, who helped inflate the cash pot to an impressive $1,292,600. That meant that even the person finishing 990th was guaranteed to win something, while those who managed to reach the last table alongside "hamanof" were all in line to walk away with at least a five-figure payout.
The playing field was cut down to less than 1,000 in under five hours, with online poker pro "LMartinC" leading the race with a stack just shy of 400,000. As hour eight ticked by, the numbers had been whittled down to the last remaining 100, with former chip leader "LMartinC" falling out in 163rd place, winning $710.93. "Pol_Thor" replaced him, out in front of the herd with a chip pile of 2.8 million. In the space of 30 minutes, "Pol_Thor" slipped back to third, overtaken by "bacco092" with a mammoth chip lead of 3.86 million.
Ten hours in and the game showed no signs of slowing down, with only 18 players remaining. By this point, "hamanof" had accumulated a huge 13.6 million chip pile, more than double his nearest rival, Timothy "weygang" English with 6.1 million. Half an hour later, the players had once again halved in number, setting the final table up with "hamanof" now leading by a country mile.
At this point, it was more about who was going to come second. "Pol_thor" challenged Timothy "weygang" English, the former falling into fifth place. English soon joined him after a poor run at "hamanof", leaving Russian player "Azamat09RUS" to claim second place, winning $145,417.50, and the Brazilian "Nandinhojah| earning $103,408 for finishing third.
