Londoner Scoops £10,000 Prize in Genting Poker's Big Game Event

Monday night saw yet another big poker win, this time at the Genting Big Game poker tournament which was held at the Cromwell Mint Casino in London. Lucky local lad Nik Persaud left the South Kensington venue with a stunning £10,000 prize in his pocket. Competing in his hometown, Londoner Persaud managed to turn his short chip stack into an ultimately dominant amount through a sequence of well-timed moves and massive double-ups.

The final four poker players held back competition from the tournament's 37-strong field, before agreeing on an Independent Chip Model (ICM) chop amongst themselves, with the top five eventually picking up the cash prizes listed below:

  1. Nik Persaud - £10,000
  2. Guy Bowles - £8,400
  3. Carl Spicer - £8,400
  4. Craig Sweden - £8,400
  5. Jason Gilbert - £1,800

An ICM is where an amount of money is assigned to your chip stack based on the amount of chips in play and the prize pool distribution (i.e. if there is a prize for coming between 1st and 4th). The sum of money that a player is expected to earn from the tournament is calculated according to the stack sizes of players currently at the table, the money in the prize pool, and how much is awarded for coming 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.

The Genting Poker Big Game tournament is swiftly establishing itself as one of the premier events on the London tour scene, playing host to top players and offering significant prize money.

Polish poker player Patryk Slusarek won the first Big Game to be held in London last month, picking up £18,480 after seeing off James Sullivan in a heads up by hitting top pair.

Players can qualify for Big Game events online by winning qualifying tournaments offered at Genting Poker. The next event to be held at Genting's Cromwell Mint Casino will be the £400 buy-in Main Event poker tournament on 16th March, with a guaranteed £20,000 prize pool.
