New Jersey Gambler Wins Record-Breaking $1.52 Million Playing Online Poker

February 25th, 2015

According to and, one lucky resident of New Jersey, USA has managed to win a record-breaking $1.52 million (approximately £980k) on a card game, making it the biggest online win in the history of New Jersey gambling. This win sails past the previous record holder, which was a staggering $1.3 million prize in November 2014, won almost a year to the day that online gambling became legal in New Jersey.

The mysterious winner has chosen to remain anonymous, although it is known that he hails from Union County. He cinched the big win playing the popular card game Let It Ride on Valentine’s Day. The game is a special offshoot of poker where a royal flush pays out 1000 times the initial bet. The punter took advantage of this by placing three bets of $500, each paying out when he landed a diamond royal flush.

Not only that, Let It Ride comes with an additional Three Card Bonus, with slightly lesser odds of 40/1. The lucky Garden State resident also managed to win on this, again with a bet of $500, netting him a total payout of $1,522,000. Speaking about his win behind the shield of anonymity, the winner stated:

"I was playing one night for about two hours. I was ready to end my night of play and I was dealt Queen, Jack and ten of Diamonds. To my amazement I was dealt the King and Ace of Diamonds! A royal flush! Really! I was in total shock! Not my first royal either and, yes, still in shock! Then I realised it was a $1,522,000 payout. I thought it was a dream!"

The game was played on the American portal of UK's Betfair Casino, whose general manager Don Ryan said, upon hearing the news:

"It's always exciting when a player hits a big win. We're thrilled to be part of US online gaming history and to be able to provide generous bonuses, high payouts, and a secure and fair online gaming experience to our players in New Jersey for years to come."

Unlike the UK, in the US online bookmakers must enter a partnership with a brick-and-mortar casino, which Betfair shares with Golden Nugget Casino located in the betting mecca of the east coast, Atlantic City.

If you think you can strike it rich with a royal flush like the New Jersey gambler, why not visit Betfair Casino today?
