theScore Bet is a step closer to coming to Ontario.

On Monday, Penn National Gaming announced theScore Bet had obtained Gaming Laboratories International GLI-33 certification for its mobile sports wagering and iGaming app.


How theScore fits with Ontario Sports Betting

Gaining GLI-33 certification meets one of the requirements theScore Bet must receive in order for it to become an official online sports betting and iGaming operator in Ontario.

Ontario is expected to start regulated online iGaming and sports betting with private operators in early 2022. theScore Bet plans to offer both mobile sports betting and online casino games to Ontarians, subject to receipt of all regulatory approvals and satisfaction of pre-launch requirements set by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and iGaming Ontario.


Penn National Acquired theScore

Penn National officially completed its acquisition of Score Media and Gaming in October for a total consideration of approximately $2 billion in cash and stock. The move gave Penn National two unique sports media assets with its Barstool Sports brand and theScore.

Where Barstool and theScore Operate in U.S.

Penn National has continued to increase its presence around the United States by launching its Barstool Sportsbook in several locations. Its Barstool-branded sportsbook is currently live in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Colorado, Virginia, New Jersey, Tennessee, Arizona, Iowa and West Virginia.

theScore Bet is currently live in Colorado, Iowa, Indiana and New Jersey.
