An anonymous and incredibly lucky punter from Surrey has walked away with a staggering £206,000, after placing a six horse accumulator bet costing him a total of just £18. The huge win was recorded on Friday the 2nd of August in the Coral branch on Surrey's Knaphill High Street.
The lucky player placed two bets each way on half a dozen horses, and whilst one of the steeds was a non-starter, the remaining five managed to win each of their races. In a small twist of fate, one of the horses, rank outsider Flying Bear which garnered odds of 25/1, is part-owned by Coral’s Head of Racing, James Knight.
As well as the accumulator, the mystery man placed a £1 bet each way on all six of the races, which added a usually impressive £94.28 to his winnings. His luck did not end there, though, as it was later revealed that the winner was originally charged too much for his bet, paying £18 instead of the correct total of £16. As a result of the error, the winning pot was inflated by 12.5%, adding an extra £20,000 to his final pot.
After hearing about the customer’s brush with Lady Luck, Coral’s PR Director Simon Clare said, "This incredible win is what all betting shop punters dream about, but for this customer it has turned into a life-changing reality. The fact that his biggest priced winner is owned by one of Coral’s senior traders is an amusing coincidence and the customer’s mistake in over-staking his bet by £2 has also benefited him to the tune of an extra £20k. It’s a great story."
Coral Sports also offer their popular horse racing accumulators online, making it easy for you to try your luck and walk in the footsteps of this lucky winner.
