Online sports betting is a rising industry and those looking to profit most from it should be willing to adapt. The bookmaker announced plans this week to sponsor more eSports events including this year’s ESL Intel Extreme Masters as well as other ESL One events this year. It also plans to sponsor seasons seven and eight of the CS:GO Pro League. Due to past success sponsoring ESL One Cologne, the endeavor would appear to be a fruitful one for the online gambling company.
ESL One Cologne, the largest tournament for the online multiplayer first-person shooter game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) as created by Hidden Path Entertainment and Valve. As the fourth installment of the series and one of the most popular competitive games in the eSports market, CS:GO made for a smashing success at the ESL One Cologne tournament. SK Gaming, the winner of the 2017 event emerged from a field of 16 of the best teams in the world and took home a prize of $250,000.
Adam Savinson, head of eSports at Betway, has spearheaded movements to add and maintain partnerships with leagues and tournaments in the past and said he was looking forward to growing support for eSports in the future.
“We’ve already enjoyed an incredible amount of success over the past 12 months, becoming the first betting partner of CS:GO Pro League and ESL One Cologne, and we can’t wait to build on this further. Following on from the success of our previous sponsorships, we will also be on the ground creating our iconic CS:GO content.”
Bernhard Mogk, global senior vice-president sales and business development at ESL, was thrilled with the deal and also excited at the prospect of expansion into the online betting business.

Beyond tournaments, Betway has gone as far as to sponsor an eSports team from Sweden named Ninjas in Pyjamas in 2016. The bookmaker has provided revolutionary online content for fans of the squad, a fact that Betway Director Anthony Werkman championed at the time:

Efforts in the eSports business by Betway are certainly backed by the markets recent rapid growth since 2012 when its market revenue stood at just $130 million globally. Those numbers jumped to $492.7 million in 2016 and are currently on pace to break the billion-dollar barrier in 2019 and reach $1.5 billion by 2020 as eSports continues a meteoric rise to popularity across the globe.
