Punter Nets Almost €6000 on €5 Football Accumulator

December 13th, 2013

A casual €5 football accumulator bet has come up trumps for one lucky Irish gambler, netting the punter close to €6,000 which will certainly be a welcome gift just weeks before Christmas. Irishman Karl Carroll placed a 6-fold accumulator on five English Premier League matches last week, including Liverpool vs Norwich, Aston Villa vs Southampton, Man City vs West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace vs West Ham and Arsenal vs Hull, as well as the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds and Wigan.

The first game to provide the correct result was Crystal Palace’s 1-0 win over West Ham on Tuesday, while the rest of the matches took place the following evening. At odds of 4-6, Liverpool easily managed to trounce Norwich 5-1, with Luis Suarez sealing his future at the club by claiming the first four goals and assisting Raheem Sterling with the fifth. Likewise, group leaders Arsenal managed a comfortable 2-0 win over Hull at odds of 8-13, a result duplicated by Leeds against Wigan at better odds of 11-4.

The other three games looked less certain to arrive at Carroll’s predictions. Man City were leading West Brom comfortably 3-0 until Pantilimon managed to score a disastrous own goal in the 85th minute. West Brom capitalised on the error with an Anichebe goal in the 90th minute, but failed to deliver the equaliser in the six minutes of injury time. Likewise, Fulham managed to go 1-0 up over Tottenham, who managed to level the field thanks to a goal from Chiriches, followed by a late winning strike from Holtby.

The last game to come in was Aston Villa’s nail-biting battle against Southampton, during which Carroll was tweeting “Sweating now.” Aston Villa took the lead early on thanks to Agbonlahor, but Southampton came roaring back in the second half with a goal from Rodriguez. Villa once again took the lead with a 64th minute goal from Kozak, but this was cancelled out five minutes later by a header from Osvaldo. Villa left it late, but managed to win thanks to a spectacular 80th minute strike from Fabian Delph, which had Carroll tweeting “Top man Fabian Delph ye made me bet last night good lad ureself.” Delph’s goal completed the accumulator, winning the Dublin punter €5,997.12.
