With the return of the English Premier League has come a return to football betting in Britain, yet the initial week’s games found an unlikely winner north of the border. According to The Daily Record, Kate Muir, a barmaid hailing from the small town of Plean in Stirlingshire, managed to win £52,000 on a 15 game accumulator costing just £1. However, she could have hit a massive £1 million payday from Coral Sports if Hull had not scored against Norwich, and the game had remained a draw.
Muir, a mother of seven and grandmother of four, racked up a total of £8,000 from 14 weekend matches. However, her total was increased nearly seven fold after Manchester United drew against Chelsea during their uninspired performance on Monday night. The barmaid, who works at the Plean Tavern, was in a state of shock after it was revealed how much she had won. “I knew I had around eight grand in the bag after the weekend’s matches and I would have been delighted with that,” said Muir. “I can hardly believe I’ve won so much money for a £1 bet. I don’t really care about not winning a million because I only heard about that being a possibility after Hull had failed to draw with Norwich.”
The humble barmaid, who placed her bet with her local Coral bookmakers, revealed that she is not a frequent gambler, but was instead caught up in the excitement of the Premier League’s opening day. She explained, “I’m not much of a punter but it was only a pound, so I handed over the money to have a go and never thought much more about it.” She revealed that she is going to use her winnings to treat her large family to a well-earned holiday.
If you think you could guess the results of a series of football games on an accumulator bet like this lucky Scottish barmaid, why not visit Coral today? You’ll find accumulators on the vast majority of games for the whole season, making it easy to have your say on the best games of the week.
