Top 10 Contenders for the 2015 Christmas Number One

Each year, punters anticipate the end-of-the-year battle for the always coveted Christmas Number One and 2015 is not different. Most bookmakers favor the usual suspects with the 2015 X-Factor Winner expected to take the crown regardless of who it is. Other familiar faces find themselves atop the favorites to reign in the title but a few new faces with serious potential have the field seeming wide open.

After browsing the top bookmakers offering odds on the 2015 Christmas Number Ones, we have compiled a list of the top 10 contenders to realistically take home the 2015 Christmas Number One Single.

10. Robin Thicke ft. Nicki Minaj

"Back Together"

Robin Thicke's partnership with the charismatic Nicki Minaj has proven fruitful as their hit single, "Back Together" has taken the music world by storm featuring in multiple top 100 songs lists across the globe. Although Minaj has had trouble connecting with main stream fans (she can be a bit eccentric), this classic sounding jam has the main stream pop fans flocking. Some bookies don't fancy the Thicke and Minaj collaboration much chance but Bet365 Sports does offer them at 33/1 to take home the coveted holiday award.

9. Kylie Minogue ft. James Corden

"Only You"

The Australian born Kylie's work with English actor/singer James Corden has produced this catchy yet light-hearted ballad, "Only You", which headlines Kylie's newest album, Kylie Christmas. The feature single of a top artist's Christmas album will always find some favourable odds come Christmas time and this single is no different. Most bookies place Kylie and Corden in the top 10 favorites with Paddy Power Sports placing them as high as one of the top 4 favourites with 8/1 odds.

8. Adele

Adele's most recent album release, 25, was headlined by her massively successful hit "Hello" which has taken the US by storm, topping the charts for weeks across the pond. The UK did not receive their home-grown star as openly as her hit single "Hello" has yet to gain as much momentum in Britain. The single has certainly received plenty of praise throughout the UK but the bookies don't believe it will be enough to push her to the top of the Christmas Number Ones. As of writing, most bookmakers including Coral Sports peg Adele at 16/1 to gain the momentum needed to take home the title.

7. Grace ft. G-Easy

"You Don't Own Me"

Grace Sewell (known as simply Grace to her fans) is one of a few Aussies looking to take home the Christmas themed award. With her single "You Don't Own Me" topping charts across the globe, it's no surprise to find her as a frequent favourite for most expert oddmakers. Some bookies have her odds as high as 9/1 (Ladbrokes Sports) but most experts settled around 10/1.

6. John Williams

Star Wars Theme

John Williams might not be a household name but his single certainly is. As producer of the historic Star Wars theme song, John Williams has long had his music heard around the world just not typically with his name tied to it. Thanks to a massive social media push by a Facebook group looking to get the Star Wars theme song to the top of the Christmas charts, John Williams' Star Wars theme song is considered a real contender to be the 2015 Christmas Number One single.

Tied to the much anticipated release of the 7th addition to the Star Wars series, Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, this familiar tune could be worth taking a punt on as the Star Wars enthusiasts rev up for the big release later this month. Betfred Sports has John Williams tied for second favourite with Justin Beiber and NHS Choir at 7/1 odds.

5. Eagles of Death Metal

"Save A Prayer"

Eagles of Death Metal quickly flew up the charts around the globe after the horrific Paris terrorist attacks during their November show at the Le Bataclan Theatre in Paris, France. Following the nationally covered attacks, a Facebook campaign was created to get the band's cover of Duran Duran's "Save A Prayer" to the top of the UK charts.

Duran Duran's frontman, Simon Le Bon, is heading up the campaign and in full support of the movement. Despite the campaign barely pushing the song into the top 60, bookmakers feel the collective world-wide support of the band has their odds skyrocketing. William Hill Sports has Eagles of Death Metal favored 10/1 (about what most other bookies have) to surprise the big names and take home the prize.

4. Military Wives Choir

"Wherever You Are"

Following suite with Eagles of Death Metal, the support for the Military Wives Choir's "Wherever You Are" comes from their fans' love for what the group stands for as opposed to just the quality of their music. The group, created as part of The Choir series, entitled "The Choir: Military Wives", aims to assist the wives and girlfriends of servicemen deployed overseas. The heart-warming group of talented women is not being taken lightly though; Winner Sports pegged the choir as the second favourite to hoist the crown only to the unanimous favorite (2015 X-Factor Winner) with odds of 6/1, tying them with mega-star Justin Bieber.

3. Justin Bieber

'Beliebers' will be happy to know their idol continues to produce wildly successful songs. Justin Bieber's recent release of "Sorry" has followed suit as it hits number one across many of the top global charts. The catchy pop tune has young and old alike scrambling for the album as well as pushing the Biebs to the top of the favourites to take home the coveted UK Christmas Number One. Despite a media push to discredit the young star after a string of personal mishaps in the States, Justin Bieber and his hit single are considered at least a top 3 favourite by almost all major bookies with some touting the Canadian-born singer as the favourite ahead of the eventual winner of the 2015 X-Factor.

2. National Health Service (NHS) Choir

"A Bridge Over You"

If you thought the Military Wives Choir had you feeling all warm inside, just wait till you lay your eyes on the National Health Service Choir and their mashup of Coldplay's "Fix You" and Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" they titled "A Bridge Over You". As with most non-main stream campaigns, the NHS Choir's rise to the top of favourites for Christmas Number One finds its roots in a social media campaign. The group of health service staff members is looking to use the winnings from the competition to support Carers UK and Mind. The campaign is clearly working so far as with just a few weeks to go, most bookies have the NHS Choir firmly holding down the second favourite spot with odds as high as 6/1.

1. 2015 X-Factor Winner

A quick glance over the top bookies on the market and any punter regardless of experience will see the clear cut favourite to take home the 2015 Christ Number One Single is the whom ever takes home The X-Factor crown this weekend. As with most years since the show's beginning in 2004 (7 The X-Factor winners have won the Christmas Number One Single that same year with others coming close), the winner of the British hit television show is favoured to take home the Christmas Number One regardless of whom it is. The three finalists are Essex's own Ché Chesterman (Boys) and Louisa Anne Johnson (Girls) as well as Reggie 'n Bollie (Groups) hailing all the way from Ghana, Africa.

Any notable bookie has The X-Factor winner favourited around 4/5 which Paddy Power Sports currently (as of writing) offers. But that's not the only odds involved in this competition. Paddy Power Sports also offers odds on who will win The X-Factor itself. Louisa Anne Johnson is the favourite to take home the coveted title with odds offered at 6/1 while the only group left, Reggie 'n Bollie, is just behind at 9/2. Ché Chesterman is running in third at 14/1 with PP.

With Christmas right around the corner, (if you haven't already) be prepared to listen for all these singles vying for attention in their quest for the coveted 2015 Christmas Number One. If you feel one of these artists is a lock or you simply fancy them a good bet to be sitting on top come Christmas week, be sure to visit Coral Sports today or any of the other bookmakers above offering odds on this holiday tradition.
