Denver Broncos Storylines
Things -- on the field -- are better this week for the Broncos. They improved to 3-4 with a 45-10 romp in Arizona on Thursday night last week. Had Denver lost that game to the lowly Cardinals, head coach Vance Joseph or defensive coordinator Joe Woods may have gotten fired.
Instead, it was Arizona offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, who got the ax after the game.
Arizona is terrible, but the Broncos dominated, breaking a four-game losing streak after starting 2-0. Denver star linebacker Von Miller vowed that Denver would kicks the tail of the Cardinals. They did, and Miller led the way with two sacks and two forced fumbles.
So, now, the Broncos are on the brink of .500 and the pressure if off. However, things are not all rosy.
Backup quarterback Chad Kelly was released after he was arrested this week for criminal trespass following a team Halloween party hosted by Miller. So, there are some issues in Denver. We will see if the distraction will affect the team on the field.
Kansas City Chiefs Storylines
After the Chiefs lost for the first time this season, in Week 6 in New England, we got the sense that it was just a blip and, actually, the performance in New England was a sign of the Chiefs being around for the long haul.
That is certainly the notion after the Chiefs responded with a 45-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, who came into the game looking like a playoff team. The Chiefs’ defense played well in the game and the Patrick Mahomes train continued.
He is the youngest player (he is 23) to have six straight games of 300 passing yards or more. Also, second-year running back Kareem Hunt broke his scoring funk with three touchdowns against the Bengals.
Oakland Raiders Storylines
The Raiders are a mess and getting messier.
The Raiders are coming off of their bye week and they got worse, if that’s possible. Jon Gruden has been the most questioned decision maker in the NFL this year and the questions are still coming. Monday, the Raiders traded their top receiver, Amari Cooper, to Dallas for a first-round pick.
Cooper is talented, but inconsistent. Yes, the Raiders got good value and they now have three No. 1 draft picks next year, but where are Oakland’s good players? Gruden keeps getting rid of them. In February, Gruden said Cooper would be the focal point of his passing offense. He’s in Texas now.
Also, Oakland put top running back Marshawn Lynch, who was probably Oakland’s best player in the first six games of the season, on the injured reserve. Doug Martin, who hasn’t been a playmaker since 2015, is now Oakland’s started running back. Yes, Oakland is 1-5 and may be getting worse.
AFC West Injury Updates
Kansas City’s Justin Houston is dealing with a hamstring injury. In fact, Houston could be out for a few weeks, which isn’t good for a defense that is not playing at a high level. Also, star safety Eric Berry remains out with Achilles and heel injuries.
The Raiders hope to get left guard Kelechi Osemele, who has missed the last two games with a leg injury, back this week.
The Chargers are off this week, but the status of defensive end Joey Bosa remains a concern. The star pass-rusher has been out all regular season with a bone bruise. He is expected to remain out into November, which is a killer for San Diego.
AFC West Betting Tips and Picks
Here are some things for NFL betting fans to consider this week in the AFC West:
Broncos vs Chiefs Over/Under
Karamba has the over/under at 55.5. The Chiefs are one of four teams in NFL history to score more than 200 points in the first seven games of the season. They are an offensive machine. They’ve scored 85 points in the past two games.
Denver’s offense had 45 points last week. Denver’s defense was good against the Cardinals, but the difference between Kansas City’s offense and Arizona’s is unfair. Denver has been known to give up points this year.
In September, these two teams combined for 50 points in a 27-23 Chiefs’ win. I see the over being in major jeopardy at Arrowhead Stadium this week. Bet over 55.5 with Karamba.
Broncos vs Chiefs ATS
888Sport has the Chiefs as a 10.5-point home favorite. The Broncos hung with Kansas City in Denver on a Monday night. I think the Chiefs are better than they were then and the Broncos still have flaws.
Arrowhead Stadium is always a tough place to play. With the team playing so well this year, it’s even tougher. I can see the Chiefs cruising in this game. Take Kansas City and give the points at 888Sport.
Colts vs Raiders Over/Under
The Colts-Raiders over/under is 50.5 with 888Sports, and I like the visiting Colts to score a lot of points in this game. The Raiders have a bad pass-rush and a poor secondary.
Andrew Luck, TY Hilton and Marlon Mack all may be great fantasy plays. The Colts’ defense is allowing 26 points a game. Yes, Oakland has scored 19 or less points in four of their six games and they are without Cooper and Lynch. Still, I can see Oakland’s offense doing its part to get past 50.5 points.
