Brooklyn Nets Bets You Should Jump On: 6th Man & COY Awards

Quick Tips

The Brooklyn Nets are the best team most NBA betting fans haven’t heard anything about. Touting one of the league’s youngest rosters, and having been without their own first round pick the last four seasons, Kenny Atkinson’s group wasn’t expected to amount to much of anything 2018-19.

They appeared to be well on their way to accomplishing just that with an 8-18 record, including an eight-game losing streak in November in which six of the losses came at home.

But something clicked in early December, beginning with an impressive overtime with over the Raptors. That victory began a seven-game win streak that included wins over Toronto, Philadelphia and the LeBron-led Lakers. And they haven’t slowed down since. Since that 8-18 start, the Nets are 18-5 and have begun the 2019 calendar year with a 9-2 record.

They’re 16-7 against the spread and in that span have an impressive nine outright victories as underdogs. They’ve been the NBA’s biggest surprise and are showing no signs of slowing down as the All-Star break appears; they’re 26-23 and with 33 games need just seven wins to surpass their preseason win total projection.

Back Dinwiddie in Sixth Man Betting

How has Brooklyn done it? Ask D’Angelo Russell. The Lakers castaway to make room for Lonzo Ball two seasons ago has taken his game to another level. He’s been absurdly good over the Nets’ hot 23-game stretch, averaging 20.9 points and 7.4 assists while flirting with 50/40/90 splits (.470/.401/.935).

He should be an All-Star, especially with Victor Oladipo’s season-ending injury opening a spot in the East. Russell’s massive output on offense has helped the Nets to the No. 10 offense in the NBA in that span.

Russell’s been doing it for the starters, but Spencer Dinwiddie has made just as big an impact on the second unit. The castaway who Detroit and Chicago both gave up for nothing has found a home (and a major payday) in Brooklyn. He’s averaging 18.9 points and 5.3 assists per game since Brooklyn turned it around.

There’s a chance he’ll require surgery on an injured thumb which would hurt the Nets and his chances at winning Sixth Man of the Year. But if the injury isn’t as bad as first expected, or he’s able to avoid surgery altogether, he’s worth a serious look at +300 with 888Sport. to win the Sixth Man Award.

Atkinson’s COY Odds Favorable

But we expect the Nets to withstand the injury to Dinwiddie because of how Atkinson has built this roster. Any head coach that can make Joe Harris into a plus contributor is doing something right. He’s taken a handful of misfit toys and turned them into a playoff contender, and even the East that’s impressive.

If they’re able to keep this pace up and potentially flirt with a No. 4 or 5 seed in the Eastern Conference, his +1600 odds with 888Sport in NBA Coach of the Year betting are an absolute steal. It’s a deep field right now, but the Nets were left for dead. Between him and GM Sean Marks, Brooklyn is in good hands and is finally putting it all together.

Their in-state rivals haven’t exactly followed suit. The Knicks are headed toward the Zion Williamson sweepstakes while Kristaps Porzingis continues to rehab from ACL surgery. The Nets, on the other hand, have won seven straight at home by a combined 69 points and should have no problem taking care of what’s left of the Knicks.

We like the league’s hottest team to cover 9.5 points at home Friday at 888Sport.
