Singapore Grand Prix 2017 Expert Betting Tips and Preview
The Singapore Grand Prix always delivers in terms of entertainment and this season looks as though it will be no different. With Lewis Hamilton taking the chequered flag at the recent Italian Grand Prix in Monza, the natural inclination is to follow the Brit inside the latest F1 betting markets.
With a slim lead in the Drivers' World Championships, the bookmakers at Bet-at-Home currently have Hamilton as the 33/100 favourite to stay on top by the close of the season. However, with the Marina Bay Street Circuit always throwing up a few surprises, a win for Hamilton and Mercedes in Singapore certainly isn't guaranteed.
A look at the early outright betting markets at 888Sport has Hamilton as the 33/20 second favourite behind Sebastian Vettel at 5/4. With Vettel blitzing the majority of the races he's entered this season, it's easy to see why the German is up there in the odds makers' estimations.
However, with his British rival enjoying a slight psychological edge in terms of the championship standings, he could falter under the bright lights of this night race. Read on for more indepth analysis of the Singapore Grand Prix betting landscape ahead of the big race this weekend!
Vettel is a Fallible Master in Singapore
If we cast our minds back to 2016, Vettel could manage only a fifth-place finish in his Ferrari. Yes, he did produce the second-fastest lap time, but that wasn't enough to earn him a victory. We've seen a much-improved set-up by Ferrari this season and Vettel's car will be one of the fastest on the track, but even just a slight lapse in concentration would not bode well on September 17.
Vettel has won the race four times – 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 – but this is all about qualification and a repeat of last year’s 22nd place start could be disastrous for him and Ferrari. When you couple this with the fact that the street circuit has only one real straight where the faster cars can show their mettle, things start to get interesting.
Yes, on a purely historical, technical and skilful level, Vettel is rightly the favourite. However, we already know that Mercedes has the best car in the V6 era and Hamilton will come into the race with a ton of confidence. This alone could throw a spanner into the Ferrari garage and upset the odds.

Don't Discount Daniel if You Fancy a Value Bet
The biggest potential upset of the race could come in the form of a charging bull known as Daniel Ricciardo. The Aussie came second in this race last season and posted the fastest lap by a fair margin thanks to some slick street racing skills. If there's one pairing that seems to thrive in Singapore it's Ricciardo and Red Bull.
The car is perfectly weighted to glide around the turns and then power out at the optimal speed. Ricciardo knows exactly how to handle the course and get the most out of his raging bull. Although he couldn't quite pip Nico Rosberg to the post in 2016, his performance was impressive.
At present, the team at 888Sport has Ricciardo as the 7/1 third favourite. Given that he's a master at overtaking in Singapore, this price looks to be too juicy to ignore. Even though his car might not be able to match those from Mercedes or Ferrari, Ricciardo always performs well on this circuit and he is arguably Vettel's biggest threat.
Poised to Dethrone the Big Boys
On top of this, Ricciardo is currently the fastest driver in F1. He started at the back of the grid in Italy but still managed to post the fastest lap and hit an average speed of 250.174 km/h. He has shown he's easily one of the best drivers in the championship and that he could dethrone the big boys at any point.
Yes, Red Bull hasn't performed as well as many expected in the mechanical department this season, but all the ingredients are there. As always, qualifying will set the tone for the main race, but at this stage you can expect Ricciardo to be nipping at the bumpers of Vettel and Hamilton.
Anything goes on a street circuit and if it comes down to a straight dogfight between Vettel, Hamilton and Ricciardo, the current running suggests the Aussie will come out on top. At odds of 7/1, it's hard not to take notice of the Red Bull driver if you're looking for a touch of value in the Singapore Grand Prix.
