Jimi Hendrix Takes the Stage at NetEnt Casinos in April

Jimi Hendrix is widely considered the greatest guitarist of all time, after rising to fame in the 1960s with hits such as 'Hey Joe' and 'Purple Haze'. Tragically, his musical journey ended early at the age of 27 following his death in September 1970, but he remains an inspiration to many.

As of 2016, NetEntertainment can be counted among those he inspired. NetEnt’s Jimi Hendrix slot was revealed at ICE Totally Gaming 2016 in London on 3rd February; at the conference, the developer committed to a launch three months later, on 21st April.

'NetEnt Rocks' in 2016

The first day of ICE 2016 was also notable for NetEnt’s announcement of a Motörhead slot, scheduled for release on 22nd September 2016. CEO and President Per Eriksson also used the occasion to explain that “[the company’s] theme for 2016 is 'NetEnt Rocks'.”

In realising that vision, Jimi Hendrix and Motörhead will join the already released Guns N’ Roses slot game to form a three-piece band of rock slots at NetEnt casinos. Guns N’ Roses launched first on 21st January 2016 to kick off a big year for music-loving casino players.

Hendrix Family Approval

In making the slot, NetEnt managed to attain approval from the Hendrix family. Experience Hendrix LLC President and CEO Janle L Hendrix said the family is “extremely selective in [whom] we partner with.” Hendrix continued by saying the family believes “[NetEnt] has an understanding of the importance” of correctly “promoting Jimi’s art and persona.”

For realism, NetEnt’s development team has created Hendrix’s in-game character using ten morph targets that can exhibit hundreds of facial expressions. As a result, NetEnt’s forthcoming video slot will feature fully 3D animation.

Fans can also listen to five of the musician’s most recognisable songs, including tracks like 'Crosstown Traffic' and 'Little Wing' within the game. This creative decision is similar to that made for NetEnt’s Guns N’ Roses slot, which also features five song’s from the band’s catalogue.

Flower Power Visuals

As for the game itself, NetEnt has chosen to reveal some design aspects by publishing a promotional video to YouTube. In the video, it becomes apparent that NetEnt has opted for a visual style that is faithful to the imagery of the Flower Power era of the 1960s.

Among the symbols displayed on the five-reel slot are peace signs, hearts, flowers, records and colourful guitars. There's also an expansive desert backdrop, adding a sense of mystique.

Special Features Revealed

Red Guitar Re-Spin is the first of two special features, activating when a symbol displaying a guitar with a red pattern appears. When this happens, each of the red guitar symbols remains in place while the reels spin again. This continues until no more red guitars appear on the screen, at which point the winnings are calculated.

The video also reveals the 'Pick and Click' feature, which is a side game that lets players select speakers to win free spins or a payout. If the spins are triggered, players will receive them in three varieties, with each differing by the types of wild symbols that appear. During gameplay, players can win up to 80,000 coins.
