Mr Green Set to Join Playtech Open Platform

Mr Green Casino has agreed a deal integrating innovative content from Playtech, the global provider of multichannel gambling software, to their gaming offering. By joining with the Playtech Open Platform (POP), Mr Green will provide its players with more than 600 new and exciting games.

Playtech has created many of their games in-house, with over 20 external software developers also contributing content. With regard to accessibility, much of Mr Green’s new library will be playable on desktop and mobile devices, with a release expected in the next few weeks.

A Mutual Partnership

When announcing the agreement, Mr Green Online Casino CEO Bo Wänghammar explained the decision:

"Mr Green has a pronounced focus on large and regulated markets, and Playtech has a very strong presence in the UK."

So while Wänghammar values the UK potential, Playtech COO Shimon Akad sees a strategic benefit for his company:

"We have big plans for the platform and our content in 2016 in line with our omni-channel approach and across expanding markets such as Scandinavia."

Mr Green Attempting to Rebound

This latest move from Mr Green is part of a strategy to improve profitability, following operating losses of 31kr million in 2014 [£2.68m] and 36kr million in 2015 [£3.11m]. The operator did manage to increase corporate revenues by 20% over the period, but this was not enough to ensure profitability.

Alongside the POP deal, Mr Green also intends to establish an online sportsbook. Mr Green & Co AB CEO Per Norman made the announcement in February 2016, stating that they hadn’t chosen a supplier and that a launch date had not yet been set for the year. Norman also emphasised that he would "rather get it right than get it quick."

In attempting to return to profitability, Mr Green will also be able to utilise POP’s intelligence capabilities to create a better experience for players, which will be achieved by using the reporting and bonus features integrated within the platform.

New Games for Players

After the initial launch, Mr Green can start providing Playtech games alongside existing POP clients. When fellow Swedish-based Leo Vegas joined POP in April 2015, the platform could operate over 70 games on mobile devices, with Playtech intending to double that figure by the end of the year. Since then, the total number of desktop games has increased from 500 to more than 600.

Mr Green’s decision means its users can soon play a recognisable selection of branded slots, such as Rocky and Pink Panther. Meanwhile, they can also play superhero slots created under official license from Marvel.

Yet more superhero slots are set to follow, given the multi-year deal struck between Playtech and Warner Bros in February 2016. As stipulated, Playtech now has the rights to create slots based on four DC Comics films, which include Superman (1978), Superman 2 (1980), Green Lantern (2011) and Man of Steel (2013).

This recent development will help Playtech fill the Marvel void that was created when the two parties did not make a new deal. Although Marvel had previously approved gambling content, this changed when the comic book company was acquired by Walt Disney in 2009.
