William Hill Director Plans Exit After 45 Years

British bookmaker William Hill has announced that its long-standing Media Relations Director, Graham Sharpe, is departing the company after a mammoth 45 years with the betting firm. This will certainly send shockwaves throughout the industry and is a huge loss for the bookmaker.

Sharpe plans on leaving next week, having already agreed a redundancy package with William Hill. He plans on remaining as an advisor to the Sportsbook of the Year competition that he co-founded many years ago. He stated:

"I'd have liked to have seen the William Hill Sportsbook of the Year through to the 30th edition in November next year, which would coincide with my 68th birthday".

Sharpe's Impact

Sharpe has been with the sportsbook since 1972 and has enjoyed many years of success with the company. He was the first person to allow betting on a white Christmas and what the Christmas number one would be. Sharpe’s certainly had a huge impact at William Hill and in the gambling industry as a whole.

William Hill is one of the most reputable brands in the industry; the name is synonymous with fair play and great customer service. Ciaran O'Brien, the Communications Director at William Hill had plenty of praise for his former colleague, crediting him for shaping William Hill’s public relations profile and changing the way gambling is perceived by punters.

He’s been such an influence on the industry that Mr O'Brien said:

"You couldn't pick up a tabloid newspaper without reading his name in association with a betting story."

William Hill Moves from Strength to Strength

William Hill was founded in 1934 and has gone through many business hands over the decades, growing into a household sports betting name. As a brand it's instantly recognised and has even made its way to the London Stock Exchange, sponsored sport events, become a kit sponsor, opened a sportsbook in the US and achieved plenty more feats in the gambling industry.

The company employs more than 15,000 people globally, with head offices in Leeds, London and Gibraltar. Its huge customer base extends across 175 countries and six languages, making William Hill the industry leader in the world betting market. This gaming operator is licensed to operate in the UK, Gibraltar, Australia, Italy, Spain and Nevada in the US, which is more than most UK gambling companies.

William Hill also has a strong high street presence, with around 9000 betting shops still standing. Land-based betting shops are on the decline since the launch of online betting, but the company still has a huge number of shops across the country, proving its power in the sports betting industry.

Unrivalled Range of Betting Products at William Hill

Not only is William Hill widely considered the number one sports bookmaker site on the internet, it no longer just focus on sports betting. It boasts a very successful online casino that features the largest selection of casino games found online and a state of the art live casino with real life dealers. It doesn’t stop there.

This gambling powerhouse has branched out into all areas of online gambling, with its own lesser-known lottery betting service, poker rooms and online bingo games. William Hill is keeping ahead of the game with its online gaming offering too. One of its main gaming providers is the industry established Playtech, which has produced some of the most popular online casino games ever.

Playtech also provides William Hill’s gaming platform to ensure smooth and reliable gameplay across all areas. Many betting operators use their own gaming platforms, which are more prone to technical issues, while Playtech’s proven platform delivers a high standard betting domain. This sports betting firm also has dedicated iOS mobile apps for all of its betting products, from sports to casino and bingo.

These apps provide an intuitive betting experience at the customer’s fingertips. One of William Hill’s core goals in the betting industry is to make online gambling more appealing and less intimidating. It achieves this by offering more products that are easy to operate and also offers helpful tips to make betting a more attractive proposition to the everyday punter.

There’s no denying the impact that Graham Sharpe had on the company – he will be sorely missed. William Hill has some big boots to fill. To Check out William Hill's world-class online betting experience, simply follow our secure link and use our generous sign-up bonus to get started today!
