April 18th, 2016
Grosvenor Poker's popular GUKPT Reading festival is set to get underway on 17th April, much to the delight of poker fans across the UK. If you're raring to compete, you can still get in on the action courtesy of some last-minute satellites.
Following on from another successful outing to Manchester's Grosvenor Casino, the GUKPT tournament team will be heading back down south for Leg 3 of the 2016 season.
Continuing the trend of bringing low stakes and high value events to players across the UK (and those travelling from Europe), GUKPT Reading will take place between 17th April and 24th April, at the city's Grosvenor Casino. As ever, there are several ways you can score yourself a place at the table in advance.
Direct buy-ins to the £100,000 guaranteed £500+£50 event are available on Thursday 21st April (Day 1A) and Friday 22nd April (Day 1B) at the casino or via your Grosvenor Poker account.
If you're a little more frugal with your bankroll, you can still win a seat in GUKPT Reading's Main Event thanks to a flurry of last-minute satellites. Costing as little as £0.25, the following schedule of tournaments will offer aspiring novices the chance to join the pros and play for £100,000 at the big event.
Tuesday and Sunday
Monday, Thursday and Saturday (Rebuy satellites)
Wednesday and Friday (Freezeout satellites)
In addition to a £100,000 guaranteed Main Event, GUKPT Reading's roster has also been laced with an array of tournament offerings designed to suit all bankrolls and persuasions.
The side event schedule will kick off with a £100+£10 Mini Main re-entry event, boasting a £10,000 guarantee as well as a seat in the £500+£50 Main Event for the overall winner.
Similarly priced No Limit Hold'em events, including a six-max, are scattered throughout the remainder of the festival; for those looking for something a little different, the Omaha event on 21st April is worth a look.
Listed as Event #10 on the official schedule, the £75+£7 re-entry tournament will alternate between rounds of four, five and six-card Omaha.
Back in 2015, England's Raul Martinez made his way past 248 entrants to claim the GUKPT Reading title and the £25,250 top prize. Following a four-way deal, Martinez eventually bested Hui Jin to take the winner's trophy. He will return this season to defend his title.
While it's still unclear how many players Martinez will have to defeat if he's to achieve back-to-back wins, the organisers are predicting another healthy turnout in Reading.
Indeed, in 2015 the £100,000 guarantee was trumped by more than £23,500, and if the latest leg in Manchester is any indication of things to come (the £200,000 was beaten by £32,000), then this year's event looks set to be another success story for the GUKPT.
