NFL Thanksgiving Week 12 Betting Tips: Cowboys vs Redskins
The Washington Redskins (6-4) suffered a loss to the Houston Texans at home in Week 11, but that certainly wasn’t the biggest storyline of the game. Quarterback Alex Smith was injured and will miss the rest of the season after suffering a devastating leg injury, making the Redskins a bit of a quandary for NFL betting fans.
Despite holding a one-game lead in the division, the Redskins' playoff hopes seem to be on the ropes. However, a win on Thursday would give them a stranglehold on the NFC East. After back-to-back road wins, the Cowboys (5-5) are not only alive in the division, but they may be the favorite now, and with a win on Thursday would be in the lead of the NFC East with just five games to go and could even host a playoff game.
Top Redskins vs Cowboys Bets
Dallas enters this game as 7.5-point favorites with 888Sport. However, beware of the Jason Garrett-led Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Since Garrett has become the head coach, the Cowboys have a record of just 3-5 on Thanksgiving.
For the rest of the season, the Redskins will be led by veteran quarterback Colt McCoy. In his brief appearance against the Texans in Week 11, McCoy looked sharp and prepared. It is now up to him to carry this team to a victory on the road on a short week against one of the best defenses in the NFL. That certainly won’t be an easy task.
Both of these teams have outstanding defenses, but struggle to put up points. Everything points to this being a low-scoring game that comes down to the final possession. Take the Redskins and the points at 888Sport. on Monday Night Football.
The over/under total for this week is sitting at 40.5. There have been just two Thursday Night matchups this season that has seen less than 41 points scored (Jets/Browns and Raiders/49ers).
The story of the Cowboys' season has been their lackluster offense. On Sunday, Dallas scored just six points in the first three quarters against the Falcons, a defense that has been surrendering points all season long. However, in the fourth quarter, Dallas scored 16 points and finished with a game-winning drive and field goal.
The Cowboys' offense is indeed a work-in-progress, but it will need to improve quickly if they want to compete with the better defenses/teams.
Typically, these games tend to be high-scoring as the defenses just aren’t prepared/fresh enough to play on the short week. However, these two teams do possess two of the better defenses in the NFL, and neither offense is all that powerful.
Bet the under with 888Sport. This will probably end up as a 20-17 type of game.
Redskins vs Cowboys Major Injuries
Both teams will enter this crucial Week 12 matchup with many injuries on both sides of the ball. For Washington, they will be without QB Smith, though McCoy is a veteran and looked sharp in emergency duty last week.
Bettors should also consider some other significant Washingon injuries. The Redskins will be without multiple starters on both sides of the ball. Trent Williams, Chris Thompson and Jamison Crowder are all listed as questionable for Thursday’s game.
For Dallas, Sean Lee, David Irving and Taco Charlton are all expected to miss Thursday’s matchup with the Redskins. Defensive tackles Antuwan Woods and Daniel Ross should be considered very questionable to play, as well.
