Britons up and down the country are hoping for a long, hot summer after a dismally wet start to the year. But while they wait for the sun to put his proverbial hat on, it's never too early to predict whether or not it is going to be a White Christmas in the UK this year.
Coral Sports are already taking bets on whether any snow will fall on 25th December in any of the UK and Ireland’s biggest cities. The Scots are seen to have the best chance, with the odds of a White Christmas in Edinburgh starting at 11/2 at the time of writing, while London, Dublin and Belfast are all holding steady at 8/1. The Welsh capital of Cardiff has slightly longer odds of 9/1, with its last snowfall on Christmas Day occurring in 2004.
If snow is not your meteorological cup of tea, there's also the opportunity to gamble on how hot the British weather will reach in 2013. The highest temperature ever recorded was in Kent on 10th August 2003, where the mercury rose to a sizzling 38.5°C. If you believe that a heatwave will break the current record a decade later, you could receive odds of 14/1.
Why not mix your weather betting with some sporting action? Rain is as synonymous with Wimbledon as Sue Barker and Pimm’s, and if you think the likes of Andy Murray will face rain on every day of the two-week long tennis tournament, you can get odds of 33/1. However, if your outlook is more optimistic, and you don't think that it will rain at all during Wimbledon (as was the case during the sun-soaked 2010 Championships), you could place a bet at 10/1.
