Formed in 2017, SportNation has been one of several bookmakers that have burst onto the scene and managed to carve a little segment within this fiercely populated marketplace.
Lots of sportsbooks come into this sector with the hope of becoming one of the Ireland's best betting sites. The reality is that few make it. SportNation has all attributes to be one of the few that do and with a few tweaks, we wouldn’t be surprised to come back in a couple of years to see it right up there with the biggest and the best sports betting sites.
|Great range of US-based markets||Potential withdrawal fees|
|Loads of promotions of new and existing players||Sport to sport loading times|
|Free stats for most sports|
The SportNation welcome offer focuses on free bets. When you come to create your new account with SportNation, you are going to be able to claim a free bet worth up to €20. The promotion is incredibly easy to claim and given that there is €20 on the line, makes it one of the bigger free bet offers running.
To trigger the offer, you need to use the “Create Your Bet” feature on the bookmaker. Include 3 or more legs, make sure that the minimum odds are 5.00 or higher and then SportNation will match that stake up to €20.
Once the free bet is in your account, you need to place the bet within 48 hours and at odds of 1.2 or higher.
The best thing about this offer is that you can claim this every week. That’s right, you’re able to get a free bet worth €20 every week that this promotion runs, which makes it one of the best welcome offers that we’ve tested for some time.
The bookmaker comes packed with betting promotions. We are concentrating on sports for this review, but it also includes a ton of casino offers as well, which are worth checking out.
In terms of the quality of the offers, they range. One of the better ones includes the best odds guaranteed promo. This is where SportNation will pay out the higher price of either the price you took, or the starting price of any horse race should your bet go on to win.
One unique feature SportNation offer is VAR insurance, which is such a relevant offer right now, given how controversial VAR is in football betting. This offer will refund your match result bet should your team score a winner, only for it to be ruled out by VAR. This offer only applies to selected matches, which they highlight each week on site.
As far as free bets go, SportNation has one of the best in the business. Not only does the offer provide great value in that the monetary value is worth €20 but given that you’re able to claim the offer every week, meaning you’re able to potentially get hundreds of pounds over the course of the year at the bookmaker.
The bookmaker has grown considerably over the last few years and one of the main factors for this has been the variety of sports and the markets on offer. SportNation offers a nice balance across its offering and even though it doesn't have an exceptional range to choose from, it’s more than enough for the majority of punters. You’ll find the full range of betting markets listed above.
SportNation includes a good range of betting features throughout the site. We particularly liked that it upgraded its stats section to work alongside Sports Radar. These guys are the best in the business right now, offering incredible amounts of data for a wide range of sports.
It benefits massively from having an integrated search function. Given the size of the sportsbook, getting to where you need to be is not always that easy, so the search box is a must.
The in-play betting section is another area that has fairly recently been revamped. One nice inclusion is a 'match centre' feature in the right-hand column, which allows punters to view what’s happening in each of the games.
Given that the in-play betting section is incredibly fast-moving, the layout needs to be spot on and SportNation has done just this. It has the list of games down the left, expanded markets for the chosen game in the middle and match centre along with betting slip down the right. It’s not exactly ground-breaking, but this is a process and layout that works, so no reason to tinker too much with it.
Live streaming is available on a wide range of sports and games. You need to be logged into your account and for that account to be funded or to have placed a bet within the last 24 hours to access the live stream.
To create an account with SportNation you need to start by clicking the “Join” button at the top of the page. The process from start to finish will only take a few minutes, but you will need to verify your account as well, which we will expand on.
It all starts by entering your personal info, such as name, email and date of birth. You then need to create an account username, password and security question, before inputting an address and mobile number.
Your account will more or less be set up now, but to get access you need to verify it. For this, you will have to upload copies that show proof of ID (Passport, ID card etc.) and proof of address (utility bill, bank statement etc.).
Whilst this may seem a little frustrating, it’s now the law and each betting site must ask for these details as part of its licensing agreement.
Banking options at SportNation are one of the few negatives that we’ve had to deal with whilst testing. The reason for this is that there aren’t all that many to choose from. You only have PayPal, Visa debit, Trustly or Apple Pay.
Whilst the range is small, we know that the majority of you are likely going to use PayPal or Visa debit cards anyway, so it’s not as big a deal as perhaps we’ve made out. But it is nice to have options and for those that don’t use these payment methods, means that they now have to look elsewhere.
Depositing on-site starts from as little as €10, withdrawals starting from €20. Don’t forget that the welcome free bet is worth up to €20, so bear this in mind if that’s what you’re looking to claim.
The desktop site both looks and functions really well. The orange and black theme means you’d be forgiven in thinking it looks a little like an older version of 888sport. However, SportNation owns it with the adverts for bonuses and promotions.
When testing the layout, we found that function has been something the team at SportNation has been able to incorporate into this. A three-tiered approach means you’ve always got access to the next step or you can easily move back a level. The latter is a big thing for us and it’s highly frustrating to see bookmakers only allow you to go back to the homepage, rather than a single landing page.
There is currently only a SportNation betting app for Android users. To access this, you can download the app directly from the Google Play Store. For iOS users and other mobile users, you will need to visit the site via your smartphone or tablet browser. The site has been set up on the HTML 5 platform meaning that the app essentially looks the same in your browser as it would if you downloaded it, so you aren’t missing out too much in this regard.
Pricing is pretty good on the whole at SportNation. Like so many of the smaller sites, it’s the consistency it struggles with and usually with sports or games that aren’t as high profile as they might be.
However, you’ll find a lot of enhanced odds bets updated daily. You can access this section of the site via the menu at the top and it will draw in the list of games that are triggered for this.
The support structure at SportNation is one that we can highly recommend. We actually had an issue registering our account with an old email address that was, unbeknown to us, already linked to an account. The support team was incredibly prompt to get this resolved for us and we couldn’t fault them for any follow-up queries we had for our testing.
SportNation does come with a VIP section. This is often referred to as the Reward Plus Program and as soon as you open your account you will get access to this.
You earn points as you bet and the more point you earn, the bigger your prize. Benefits of the rewards structure include invitations to sporting events as a guest of SportNation, bespoke bonuses, account managers and faster withdrawal times.
It also has a rewards store where you can cash your points in for cash. 1,000 reward points will equate to €1 in cash.
You won't be able to deposit on site until you have been able to verify your account. This is a common process with most bookies now, but it's still good to see from SportNation.
Outside of this, they offer several features that all help with responsible gambling, including timeout, reality checks and log in data. This means that you can either customise how much you can play on the site or you can have the bookmaker flag you when you've been on too long. Deposit and betting limits are included in this as well.
The brand is one of several that has come from the AG Group and whilst it has cut down on the number of sites within its stable over the last year, the decision to keep SportNation running highlights their success.
SportNation is now a full sponsor of the football side, Solihull Moors FC. It has also won several industry-related awards, including Innovative Operator of the Year at the EGR Awards, winning after a little more than 12 months in the industry.
Everything from promotions to market coverage is right on point. The customer service is flawless, and its pricing is much more stable than it was. The only negative is the number of banking options, which needs to be improved, however, this will only affect a minority of new players.
Yes, you need to withdraw €20 or more to be eligible.
The range of games is very good. They cover sports from all over the world with hundreds of markets to choose from for each.
They do, but only for Android users. This can be accessed via the Google Play Store.
Yes, the site has to go under a barrage of tests related to player safety to get their license, meaning it’s very safe.
Withdrawals for most products range from 3 to 5 days. PayPal withdrawals are usually within 2 days.
"I've worked in the betting industry on product, operations and customer service for several years. A class operator will deliver on many aspects and we cover them all."
