2015 French Tennis Open Betting Preview

Tennis fans are eagerly anticipating this year's French Open, which brings the world's top players once again to the famous clay courts of Roland Garros. In the men's competition, Novak Djokovic will be looking to complete his career Grand Slam by lifting the trophy in Paris. The world number one is yet to win the French Open, having finished runner-up in 2012 and 2014.

Men's Contenders

Novak Djokovic

Djokovic is 5/6 with Winner Sports to be this year's French Open champion, although many punters will be backing Rafael Nadal to steal the limelight once again. The Spanish star boasts a truly astonishing record at Roland Garros – he's the tournament's most successful player of all time, having won the title in nine of the last ten years.

Rafael Nadal

A surprise defeat to Stan Wawrinka at the Italian Open left some observers wondering if Nadal's decade-long dominance at Roland Garros will finally come to an end, but the 14-time Grand Slam champion always seems to raise his game for the French Open. Given Nadal's recent struggles on his beloved clay court, though, he is as long as 10/3 with Coral Sports to be victorious again this year. The 28-year-old has failed to rediscover his best form following a wrist injury and has seen his world ranking slump to number seven.

Andy Murray

Andy Murray provides another intriguing sub-plot for tennis betting fans at this year's tournament. The British world number one recorded ten successive victories on clay (including his first ever win over Nadal on the surface) before he pulled out of the Italian Open with fatigue. If a short break from action allows Murray to continue his red-hot streak of form, he looks an exciting contender to win the French Open at 9/1 with Winner Sports. The Scot has never reached the final in Paris, although he did make the semi-finals in 2014 before losing to Nadal.

Roger Federer

Of course, Roger Federer's challenge can never be dismissed. The Swiss maestro may no longer be at the peak of his power, but he is the only player to break Nadal's recent stranglehold on the French Open (winning in 2009). Federer is 20/1 with Coral Sports to win the title this year.

Women's Battle

The Favourites | Serena Willams and Maria Sharapova

In the women's competition, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova have shared the last three French Open titles. Sharapova, who won in 2012 and 2014, warmed up impressively by claiming the Italian Open in Rome. The Russian star, who also lost to Williams in the 2013 final, is 4/1 at Bet365 Sports for this year's championship. Williams' preparation for Roland Garros has been less than ideal – she was forced to withdraw from the Italian Open with an elbow problem, although she later suggested the injury would not affect her French Open challenge. Williams is widely available at 11/4 to add a third French Open title to her collection.

Simona Halep

Elsewhere, Romania's rising star Simona Halep is likely to see plenty of support from punters who expect to see a new name on the women's trophy this year. The 23-year-old was narrowly defeated by Sharapova in the 2014 final and reached a career-high world ranking of number two later in the year. She can be backed at 11/2 with Ladbrokes Sports to clinch her first Grand Slam title in Paris.

Carla Suarez Navarro

Punters looking for a bigger price on the winner may consider the improving world number ten Carla Suarez Navarro, who was recently beaten over three sets by Sharapova in the Italian Open final. The Spaniard is available at 22/1 at Winner Sports to be this year's French Open champion, although recent history is not on her side – no Spanish woman has won the title at Roland Garros since Arantxa Sanchez Vicario in 1998.
