AFC West Best Bets You Should Consider Backing in Week 9

AFC West Best Bets You Should Consider Backing in Week 9

Quick Tips:

Denver Broncos Storylines

The Broncos fought in Kansas City in Week 8 but fell short. Denver is now 3-5. The funny thing is, Denver has played the Chiefs as hard as anybody this season and have lost to the 7-1 juggernaut by a total of 10 points in two games. But the reality is the Broncos are just not very good.

That is one of the reasons why they traded wide receiver Demaryius Thomas to the Houston Texans on Tuesday. Thomas was a first-round pick in 2010 and has been a key part of two teams that went to two Super Bowls and won one world championship.

The Broncos believe their young receivers, especially rookies Courtland Sutton and DeaSean Hamilton, are ready to take the next step, so they felt Thomas was expandable. Ironically, Thomas and his new team will visit Mile High Stadium this weekend. Emotions should be high since Thomas was one of the most popular Broncos in their fan base of this decade.

Kansas City Chiefs Storylines

The train keeps moving. The Chiefs are 7-1 and have the best record in the AFC. Kansas City is halfway through the season and it looks like this team is going to get better. It is functioning at an incredibly high level on offense. First-year starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a legitimate MVP candidate at the age of 23.

Los Angeles Chargers Storylines

The Chargers are coming off their bye week and are hoping to stay hot after a pre-bye win over the Tennessee Titans in London. The Chargers have won five straight and are 5-2.

In the lacking AFC, the Chargers have to be considered a legitimate playoff threat. The offense has been clicking and quarterback Philip Rivers is having another outstanding season.

Oakland Raiders Storylines

The Raiders are legitimately one of the worst teams in the NFL at 1-6. Beleaguered coach Jon Gruden has benched many of the veterans he brought in this offseason and is giving younger players a chance, especially on defense.

Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who started until Sunday against the Colts, suddenly retired this week. He is leaving on a defense that is getting gutted. Oakland has just seven sacks and a league-low 56 quarterback pressures. Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was hit just once Sunday.

Oakland quarterback Derek Carr bounced back from some poor games and had his best game of the season against the Colts. Carr led four long touchdown drives. The Oakland offensive line is healthy again and it shows. It scored 13 points combined in the two previous games before the bye.

Still, the defense didn’t give Oakland a chance against the Colts.

AFC West Injury Updates

Kansas City’s Justin Houston is dealing with a hamstring injury but returned to practice on Wednesday. A healthy Houston would be good news for a defense that is not playing at a high level.

Star safety Eric Berry remains out with Achilles and heel injuries. Making matters worse for the Chiefs’ defense linebacker Anthony Hitchens could miss Week 9 with a rib injury.

The Raiders hope to get left guard Kelechi Osemele, who has missed the last three games with a knee injury, back this week.

Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa and star pass-rusher has been out all regular season with a bone bruise. The team is hopeful that he will return soon.

AFC West Betting Tips and Picks

Here are some things for NFL betting fans to consider this week in the AFC West:

Texans vs Broncos ATS

The Houston Texans are quietly on a five-game winning streak and are a pick ‘em choice at Karamba. Quarterback DeShaun Watson is getting more and more healthy. Houston defense should have its way with a mistake-prone Denver offense. Plus, Watson and mates should makes enough plays against a beatable Denver defense.

I see Houston winning this game comfortably and would bet the Texans with Karamba.

Chiefs vs Browns Over/Under Total

When in doubt take, the Chiefs and the over, and 888Sport has it set at 51.5. The Browns have a spunky defense yet is has been prone to giving up big points. The Browns may be inspired by interim coach Gregg Williams, who replaced the fired Hue Jackson this week.

But in the end, always go with the Chiefs’ offense. Mahomes and crew are no fluke. Plus, the Chiefs’ defense is beat up. Baker Mayfield can lead the Browns to some points. I see this as a winnable over call. Bet the over with 888Sport.

Chargers vs Seahawks ATS

The Seahawks may be underrated. They are playing better than expected. But the Chargers are definitely underrated, and they are good. Seattle is a tough place to play. But the Chargers are used to hostile crowds, even at home. The Chargers are better. Take San Diego +2 with 888Sport.

Raiders vs 49ers ATS

The Raiders are 1-6 and the 49ers are 1-7. These are two bad teams. But I really like the Raiders in this game, especially with the 49ers having injury issues with quarterback CJ Beathard. Nick Mullens could start his first game.

Not even the Raiders’ defense can screw this up. I see Carr making enough plays to give the Raiders the win in this Bay Area battle in San Francisco, where they will be about as many Raiders fans as 49ers’ fans. Bet the Raiders +3.5 with 888Sport.
