Betting Tips for the Champions League Quarter Final 1st Legs

Betting Tips for the Champions League Quarter Final 1st Legs

The competition began with 32 teams, now just eight sides remain in this season’s UEFA Champions League. After a four-week break, football’s premier club competition returns for the first legs of four mouth-watering quarter-finals. This betting preview equips punters with all the odds and tips they need for online betting on all four matches!

Betting Preview: Juventus vs Barcelona 1st Leg

Barcelona scraped into the quarter-finals after an incredible comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16. Having been hammered 4-0 in the first leg, the Spanish champions overturned the deficit with a stunning 6-1 win at the Nou Camp, scoring twice in stoppage time. They cannot afford such a slip up in their first leg here.

Juventus are six points clear in Serie A and have won all but three of their games at home this season across all competitions. That’s why most bookies have them as slight favourites in the betting for the first leg, although the odds are very close. The best odds you can get on a Juventus win are 17/10 with Betfair, while Barcelona are 23/10 with Coral.

Juventus possess that classic Italian defensive strength, but with players like Gonzalo Higuaín and Paulo Dybala, they’re not lacking in attacking quality either. However, Barca do possess the top scorer in the competition so far in Lionel Messi and undoubtedly the best front three in Europe. All but one of their Champions League games this season have produced three goals or more, so a 21/20 punt on over 2.5 goals with William Hill looks a good bet.

Betting Preview: Borussia Dortmund vs Monaco 1st Leg

It’s 20 years since Borussia Dortmund won the Champions League and they haven’t progressed beyond the quarter-finals since 2013. Thomas Tuchel’s side are currently languishing in fourth place in the Bundesliga but they’ve performed well in the Champions League this season, brushing aside Benfica in the last round with a 4-0 second-leg victory.

They’re 4/6 with bet365 to gain the upper hand in this quarter-final. Monaco, meanwhile, are sitting at the top of Ligue 1 but they don’t tend to travel very well in this competition. They’ll fancy their chances of scoring in Dortmund, though, so bet365’s odds of 4/1 on the French side to win look appealing.

This should be an entertaining tie with two young teams that like to play open and attacking football. Dortmund’s eight games in the competition this season have produced a total of 35 goals, while Monaco overturned a 5-3 first-leg defeat against Manchester City in the last round. Unsurprisingly, the odds on over 3.5 goals in this game are short at most of the prominent bookie sites.

Betting Preview: Atlético Madrid vs Leicester City 1st Leg

Leicester City’s European adventure continues on Wednesday with a trip to last year’s runners up Atlético Madrid. Leicester have already knocked out one Spanish side but Atlético should prove to be a step up from Sevilla. Diego Simeone’s side have won eight of their last nine home games in the Champions League and are 1/3 with bet365 to prosper on Wednesday evening.

However, Leicester go into the game in excellent league form. Having struggled for most of the season, the Premier League champions have won all five of their games under new manager Craig Shakespeare with the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez rediscovering their form from last season. Everyone knows how much the Foxes like upsetting the bookies, so Coral’s odds of 11/1 on Leicester to pull off another shock will certainly appeal to many.

Betting Preview: Bayern vs Real Madrid 1st Leg

Arguably the two best teams in Europe right now face each other at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday in what promises to be a fascinating encounter. Bayern have hit top form at just the right time in the season, demolishing Arsenal 10-2 on aggregate in the last round. The German champions did suffer a surprise league defeat last week but with a big lead at the top of the Bundesliga, they can afford to place all their focus on the Champions League.

Bayern also possess one of the most successful and experienced managers in Champions League history. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are unbeaten at home in all competitions this season and have scored a total of 25 goals in their last five games in Munich, conceding just one. Paddy Power are offering odds of 5/2 on them to record another win to nil.

Real are also sitting at the top of their domestic league, albeit not as comfortably. The reigning Champions League winners comfortably saw off Napoli in the last 16 and are unbeaten in their last 12 matches in the competition. Their record in Germany isn’t great, though, with only three wins in their last 14 Champions League away games against German opposition. They are slight underdogs in this one at 15/4 with Betway.
