Diana Fav In Royal Baby Betting As Meghan & Harry Reveal
Prince Harry and Meghan’s second baby is likely to be called Diana after the couple confirmed they are expecting a girl later this summer, according to bookmakers.
The former royals, who now live in Los Angeles after breaking ties with the British monarchy, revealed they are expecting a sister for first child Archie.
The news that Meghan is pregnant with a girl sent bookmakers into a spin, with the likes of Paddy Power and Ladbrokes cutting boys names from their list of contenders.
And the likelihood of Harry and Meghan naming their second child after the late Princess Diana have seemingly increased now the gender of the baby has been revealed.
Speaking in an interview with Oprah, Prince Harry said: “It’s a girl. To have any child, any one or two, would be amazing. But to have a boy and then a girl, what more could you ask for? Now we’ve got our family, the four of us and our two dogs. It’s great.”

Diana has been the lead contender to be the royal baby name ever since the couple revealed they were expecting a child at the start back in February.
Royal betting markets have been closely monitored by many punters and the name Diana has already come in from 16/1 to 10/1 in recent weeks. Those odds then collapsed to 4/1 with Paddy Power after the couple’s revelation to Oprah.
Princess Diana died in a car crash in 1997 after being hounded by paparazzi during a trip to Paris. Prince Harry was just 12 years old when the tragedy happened and has since spoken about his determination not to let the press affect his own family in the same way.
The couple detached from the royal family late last year and have given up their titles while moving to Los Angeles. The TV interview with Oprah covered a range of topics including mental health, their treatment from the British media and their relationship with the Queen.
Royal Baby Name Betting Odds
Other contenders high in the royal baby name betting markets include Allegra at 11/1 and Isabella at 12/1. As Vanity Fair reported in 2019 when the couple were expecting their first child, there was confusion as to why Allegra had come in from 100/1 to 20/1 before the sex of the baby was announced.
“It's probably the most bizarre eleventh hour move we could've seen, but the money is coming in thick and fast for Allegra,” a Ladbrokes spokesperson said at the time.
Two years on and Allegra is there again, while Kamala – the first name of newly-instated US vice president Kamala Harris – is in at 16/1.

Bettors may well seek to find value in names of former royals. Princess Alexandra – also known as Lady Ogilvy – is the Queen’s cousin. Princess Alice married Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester in 1935, while Queen Victoria was the country’s longest-serving monarch until Queen Elizabeth II took that honour in 2015.
Yet there may well be a sway away from ‘royal’ names following Harry and Meghan’s permanent move to America. Relationships between Harry’s father Prince Charles and brother Prince William are strained, with the younger sibling claiming he feels “rather let down by my father”.
No Royal Title
What we do know about the royal baby is they will not receive a royal title. Harry and Meghan relinquished theirs upon their departure from ‘The Firm’ this year. What’s more, their son Archie was never officially recognised as a prince, although he is seventh in line to the British throne.
More unusual names therefore litter the higher-priced outcomes in the royal baby name odds. Names such as Mary, Fiona and Frances flitter around the 60/1 mark, while Oprah is priced at 50/1 with certain online bookmakers.
Camilla – the name of Prince Charles’ second wife – is 66/1, while Melania is cheekily set at 200/1 – an outcome that seems very unlikely indeed.
