With the tournament expanded to 24 teams, this year’s European Championships promises to be one of the best ever. Read on for Gambling.com's pick of the must-watch matches in the group stages.
A match that every Wales fan will be looking forward to and every England fan will be dreading. It has been 58 years since Wales last qualified for a major tournament and they would love nothing more than to pull off an upset against Roy Hodgson’s side.
While the home nations are used to facing each other in rugby, the countries’ footballers have not played competitively since 2011. England are favourites at 4/6 with William Hill, but with Gareth Bale on their side along with Premier League stars like Aaron Ramsey and Ashley Williams, Wales provide a tough challenge.
A 5/1 bet on them to win might be a bit unpatriotic if you're English, but it is tempting. One thing is for certain: a lot of people across the UK will be "working from home" on the afternoon of Thursday 16 June.
The first round of fixtures in group E throws up arguably the tastiest contest of the group stages, as the highest-ranked European nation in FIFA’s world rankings takes on the 2012 runners-up.
Belgium have a point to prove after their disappointing 2014 World Cup campaign. While manager Marc Wilmots has been hit by a number of defensive injuries, his squad boasts arguably the most attacking talent of any country at the tournament.
These two have not played each other in the competition since Euro 2000 when the Italians won 2-0, but things have changed since then and it is Belgium who are considered slight favourites at 6/4 with most of the bookmakers, with Italy 2/1 to get their campaign off to a winning start.
A draw is best priced at 11/5 with Ladbrokes; with it being the opening game, it's a result that both teams would probably settle for.
Not only are these two countries fierce rivals due to their political history, they're also very familiar with each other on the football pitch. Poland beat their neighbours for the first time ever in qualifying for Euro 2016, while the teams also met at Euro 2008 and the 2006 World Cup.
Poland’s star man, Robert Lewandowski, is well known to the German defence, having scored over 100 goals in the Bundesliga over the last six years. He will be crucial for the Polish side, who are 11/2 with Coral to cause an upset.
The best odds you can get on a German victory are 8/13 with 888sport, while a draw is generally 3/1.
Neighbours France and Switzerland play each other in the final round of group fixtures, with top spot in group A likely to be up for grabs. France are the bookies’ favourites to win the tournament and are 8/11 to get the three points with Paddy Power, but Les Bleus have suffered their fair share of upsets in recent major tournaments.
If you fancy a flutter on the Swiss, they are 9/2 with Coral and Ladbrokes, while a draw between these two friends is 3/1 with 32Red.
France beat Switzerland 5-2 at the 2014 World Cup and if top spot in the group is at stake, this could well be another classic. Premier League fans will be particularly interested in this match, with the likes of Anthony Martial, Olivier Giroud, Xherdan Shaqiri and new Arsenal signing Granit Xhaka all likely to feature.
For punters who are looking for potential banana skins, this group D encounter in Bordeaux could provide one. With Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic in midfield plus Mario Mandzukic up front, Croatia are considered by many as dark horses for this summer’s tournament.
Current holders Spain are still recovering from their disastrous campaign at the 2014 World Cup and are not the force that they were four years ago. The fact that this is the final group game makes it an even more interesting prospect – albeit dependent on how the two teams do in their first two matches.
Vincente del Bosque’s side are 10/11 with many of the bookies, while Croatia are 3/1 with Bet365 Sports.
