BBC Icons is a public vote to decide who was THE greatest person of the 20th century, and right now British war-time prime minister Winston Churchill is favourite to win.
In a seven-part history series, the BBC will profile four icons from seven different areas, starting with Leaders, running through Activists, Explorers, Entertainers, and Sports to finish with Artists & Writers.

There are seven different categories that make up the BBC Icons series, and the winners of each category are decided by a public vote. Here's the betting on the BBC Icons categories:
Leaders - airing Tuesday, January 8 at 9pm
Who is the favourite? British prime minister Winston Churchill is a strong favourite to in the BBC Icons overall betting and consequentially 8/15f to win the Leaders category. Recently resurrected by the film 'Darkest Hour', Churchill won the BBC's last go at a programme like this, taking the number one spot in a public poll entitled, '100 Greatest Britons'.

Explorers - airing Wednesday, January 9 at 9pm
Who is the favourite? The first man to step foot on the moon, Neil Armstrong, heads the betting at 2/5. Another to have recently been on the big screen (First Man), Armstrong took mankind well-beyond what any other explorer on the list could have imagined. He's still one of just 12 humans to have walked on the moon since his first steps in 1969.
Scientists - airing Monday, January 14 at 9pm
Who is the favourite? World-leading German physicist Albert Einstein is the 10/11 favourite, having changed the way people understand the universe, despite scores of doubters. He developed the theory of relativity and the world's most famous equation: E = mc^2^.
Entertainers - airing Tuesday, January 15 at 9pm
Who is the favourite? Ziggy Stardust, aka David Bowie, an entertainer on so many levels is the 1/2 favourite, with seven Grammy Awards, and 15 platinum albums across the UK and US. He's made the short-list because as he collected those accolades, he became a master of reinvention, changing the face of pop.
Activists - airing Monday, January 21 at 9pm
Who is the favourite? Dr Martin Luther King Jr is a clear leader in this category at 4/5, having created one of the most defining moments in Americal civil rights history with his 'I Have A Dream' speech. The Baptist minister had a vision for racial equality, which he achieved through nonviolent activism. He is remembered in the US every year on the third Monday in January - MLK Day.
Sports Stars - airing Tuesday, January 22 at 9pm
Who is the favourite? Boxer Muhammad Ali has already been ranked Greatest Athlete of the 20th Century by Sports Illustrated and Sports Personality of the Century by the BBC (both 1999), now he's favourite for this category at 2/7 - and 20/1 overall.
Artists & Writers - airing Tuesday, January 29 at 9pm
Who is the favourite? In the closest BBC Icons betting market, thrilling filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock and unique painter Pablo Picasso share favouritism at 5/4. Both created their own genres and developed techniques and styles forever synonymous with their heralded names.
How Does BBC Icons Voting Work?
Voting begins for each category after the corresponding progamme on BBC Two has aired, and runs until 4pm the next day, with the winner of that sector being announced on The One Show.
When all seven progammes have been completed, the finallists will go into a Live Final, broadcast on BBC Two on Tuesday, February 5. Voting will take place during the show and the overall BBC Icons winner will be announced during that programme.
