Kinloch Brae Chase Betting Tips: Bet On Recall Revival

Kinloch Brae Chase Betting Tips: Bet On Recall Revival

Quick Tips

Troytown Chase winner Tout Est Permis will clash with Ladbrokes Trophy hero Total Recall in an entriguing renewal of Thurles's Horse & Jockey Hotel Kinloch Brae Chase this Sunday.

The pair head the betting at 9/4, along with the Total Recall's Willie Mullins-trained stablemate Invitation Only, in the €45,000 Grade 2, that is often used as a stepping stone to Cheltenham Festival glory.

Cheltenham Festival Trial Form

With Tout Est Permis, Total Recall, Sub Lieutenant and Invitation Only all priced up in the odds for Cheltenham Festival races like the Ryanair Chase and Cheltenham Gold Cup, we'll first take a quick look at the Kinloch Brae as a Festival trial:

Newmill won in 2006, weeks before he won the Champion Chase. In 2016 it was Don Cossack's last run before landing the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and the following year Sizing John followed the same route - his runner-up Sub Lieutenant filling the same spot in the subsequent Ryanair Chase.

Back in 2002, the Arthur Moore-trained Native Upmanship won the race for the first of three times. After being second in Champion Chase on his next run, he won the Grade 1 Melling Chase at Aintree, and finished second in the Punchestown Gold Cup.

The following year he repeated the sequence, but finish third at Punchestown, and aged 11 in 2004 he won at Thurles again.

Kinloch Brae Best Bet

Of the Kinloch Brae entries, Tout Est Permis is the youngest and least tried. He's an improving six-year-old, who has impressed in both handicap starts this season including when winning the valuable Troytown Chase at Navan (3m, good) last time out.

But his three runs over fences in Graded company, albeit as a novice, lacked anything to write home about and it looks profitable to bet elsewhere. Invitation Only won at Grade 3 level as a novice chaser, and was a length third in a Leopardstown Grade 1.

He is entered in the Ryanair Chase, Cheltenham Gold Cup and next Thursday's Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park, but has only run once since last April, and has too many question marks to be backed at 2/1.

The one to bet on in the Kinloch Brae has to be Total Recall. After winning the Ladbrokes Trophy, he went off the boil last season, failing to finish on his final three starts, but looked to be on the way back when second over 2m5f at Tramore (soft) on New Year's Day.

It was perhaps an indicator of connections' aims of a clear round at Tramore that he was ridden with greater restraint than usual, on an undulating turning track where it can pay to race close to the speed.

The distance and ground is no issue to the versatile 10-year-old, who is no bigger than 40/1 to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and the same price for the Grand National in April.
