Liverpool have certainly been the trendsetters this transfer window and have inarguably done the best business in the Premier League this summer. The arrival of some world-class talents have elevated Liverpool from one of the contenders for the league title to the sure shot challenger to Manchester City. And now, the Reds are looking to make one more blockbuster signing before August 9.
Sources close to Indykaila have reported that Liverpool are keen on landing Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic. The American forward has suddenly become the hot topic of the transfer world in the past few days. Chelsea have also been linked with the 19 year old. The Blues are eyeing attacking reinforcements and have made Pulisic as one of their prime targets.
Christian Pulisic has a contract with Dortmund until 2020. The Westfalenstadion outfit had offered a new deal to the youngster which was instantly rebuffed by him. This has what started the rumours of Pulisic leaving the Bundesliga this summer. Dortmund know Pulisic's intentions of a move to a bigger club and have placed a £65 million valuation on the player's head.
Indykaila sources can further reveal that despite Chelsea's firm interest in the player, Pulisic prefers a move to Liverpool. The Reds' management along with the owners have given Liverpool's sporting director Michael Edwards the green signal to move ahead with the negotiations. A first offer from Liverpool for Pulisic will be made in the next 7 days.
Liverpool have vetoed in on Pulisic's signature from a tactical and commercial point of view. For the obvious reasons - despite landing top talents such as Naby Keita, Fabinho, Alisson and Xherdan Shaqiri - Liverpool have still not replaced Philippe Coutinho and his creativity. It is because of this that a move for Nabil Fekir was pursued by the Reds.
Though the deal for Fekir never saw the light of the day, the onus has now been shifted to Christian Pulisic. His versatility to play in a number of positions, his nimble feet, his output in front of goal and his work rate make the American poster boy the perfect fit for Liverpool. Pulisic's ability to play on the flanks and also in the no.10 role is what has attracted Jurgen Klopp towards him.
Klopp and Pulisic go a long way back. It was during Klopp's time with Borussia Dortmund that the club had secured the services of Christian Pulisic. The now Liverpool boss rates him highly and recently sang his praises after a Pulisic brace led Borussia Dortmund to a 3-1 win over Liverpool in a pre-season friendly.
After the game, Klopp had said, "If, at one point, he (Pulisic) will join us, I don't know. I like him, it's not that that could be the problem, but we respect contracts still and there’s no market I know about at the moment. We did our business and Dortmund are doing theirs. All good." The situation has changed since then and Pulisic is now available to capture for £65 million.
Pulisic himself praised the Reds after that game and talked about his revelation of the Anfield atmosphere. The 19 year old was an unused substitute for Dortmund in Liverpool's 4-3 win over the German giants in the 2015/16 Europa League.
Pulisic said, "The atmosphere at Anfield… wow! You could see why it’s so difficult to play there. There was a point in that game where we were just kind of looking around saying ‘wow, this is insane!’ It was as if you could just feel what was coming." According to the Indykaila sources, Pulisic could well experience the atmosphere at Anfield every other week, donning the Liverpool red.
Along with Jurgen Klopp, there seems to be an urgency from the Liverpool board to sign Christian Pulisic. The Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have long been trying to increase their fan base in their home turf - USA - and signing Pulisic can be the dream move for the owners, from a marketing and commercial point of view.
Pulisic is the biggest star, on and off the field, for the United States' national football team. Liverpool can cash in on that by completing a move for the youngster in the next fortnight. From attracting new fans to generating more revenue for their shirt sponsors in the United States to eyeing new sponsors for the club - Pulisic can be a stunning commercial move for FSG.
With Jurgen Klopp's approval and Borussia Dortmund's willingness to do business for the youngster, Indykaila sources have told us that Liverpool will lodge an official bid for Christian Pulisic in the next week. The player is looking for a move to the Premier League and is expected to reject Chelsea's advances for a chance to play under Jurgen Klopp and to play in the Champions League.
