Dear Reader,
An awful lot has happened since we were last here talking about Love Island. More than you could shake a recoupling stick at, but two events from the last week stand out: 1) the Lie Detector caused absolute chaos and 2) the heartthrob doctor looks to have found his match.
A feature of the show that has always shaken things up in the final week, the Lie Detector caused absolute chaos as expected – and it was not always chaos that the fans liked. The combination of Jack and Dani, the inspiring couple that makes people believe in good things again in these times, has appeared untested so far, but the producers have had plenty of tricks up their sleeve and finally put some pressure on the couple. See the questions and answers below.
Alexandra asking Dani’s questions:
Jack’s answer: NO
Lie detector’s verdict: TRUE
Jack’s answer: No. NO
Lie detector’s verdict: UNDETERMINED
Jack’s answer: No. No way. I loved it, I couldn’t wait to settle down with her NO
Lie detector’s verdict: LIE
Jack’s answer: No. Stupid question. That’s really annoyed me that question NO
Lie detector’s verdict: LIE
Jack’s answer: Yes, absolutely YES
Lie detector’s verdict: TRUE
Jack’s answer: NO
Lie detector’s verdict: LIE
Jack’s answer: YES
Lie detector’s verdict: TRUE
Jack's answer: Yep. So far so good, I feel like yeah YES
Lie detector’s verdict: TRUE
As one can imagine, Dani was not a happy bunny. She went to confront Jack over the answers, as anyone would do, and once for the salesman said Dani was ignoring all the questions he had answered truthfully.
It went as badly as could have been expected, with Dani particularly aggravated for Jack’s negative response to the question “Could you be tempted by other girls outside the villa?” The ensuing argument was uncomfortable watching for a nation that had taken the pair to heart in a summer that has given week after week of bad news.
It was a less scary experience for those punters who had lumped on the duo to take the prize with Paddy Power, who paid out weeks ago on them winning the competition, although one can still expect them to be the winning couple – as shown by their special date when the two committed to moving in with each other after the show.
Oh, Alex. The heartthrob doctor looked to have found his match in Alexandra with the two enjoying a Super Date where Alex got to drive a Ferrari – yes, really a Ferrari – and on the surface all looked as if it was going well.
Alexandra was talking about all the lovely couple things – moving in together, meeting family, and living a happily ever after life – but a lukewarm response was coming from the Doctor. “It’s not always easy. I think other couples are trying to rush. I think we’re moving at what’s comfortable for us. I’m happy with that. I think slow and steady wins the race sometimes.”
And then at the end of the show of course, Alex dumped Alexandra, enraging not only the lovely hairdresser but legions of fans on social media, many of whom have been suspicious about his motives for quite some time. With time running out, can either of them bounce back?
Laura! Remember her? Of course, you do. The Scottish vixen has been terribly unlucky through the Villa so far - Megan Barton Hanson snatched Wes from under her nose before Jack's head was turned by Laura Crane (or New Laura).
Now 31-year-old Paul Knope has swooped in to make her happy once and for all and there’s lots to like about the two, who are favourites with Paddy Power to win in the ‘Without Jack and Dani’ market, a real sentence I just wrote in 2018.
Josh and Kaz aren’t far behind, with the pair apparently described as ‘smug’ by certain parts of the population who drive the popular small car, the Fiat 500.
Megan and Wes are just behind and appear happy with each other, although the long memories of viewers with proper attention spans.
The markets for the 1-2-3 markets are very interesting with much of the public opinion about these couples set in stone. The voting demographics, along with a new, inoffensive partner, greatly favour Laura and the option of her and Paul to follow home Jack and Dani in a 1-2 is interesting at 7/4 with Paddy Power.
