New Star Wars Film Betting

While Star Wars fans are divided on whether they think that Disney’s acquisition of the beloved franchise will bode well for the saga in the long run, it’s hard for any of them to avoid feeling just a little excitement over the new trilogy, which was officially announced on 30th October 2012.

To add to the keen anticipation, Paddy Power Sports has priced up a Star Wars betting market to allow fans of the films to wager on which characters will appear in the new trilogy’s first instalment, Star Wars VII, which is set for release in 2015.

Top of the pack are siblings Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, both at 1/50 at the time of publication. Actors Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher have both confirmed that they're in talks about reprising their respective roles, which may explain the short odds - although nothing has yet been confirmed.

Harrison Ford has also said that he's "open" to returning as lovable rogue Han Solo, who is offered 1/33 to appear in the film. However, anyone after slightly better returns might like to consider backing Chewbacca, Solo's Wookiee co-pilot, to make an appearance - he's available at 11/10.

Perhaps slightly more intriguing are the prices for deceased characters such as Yoda (on a par with Leia and Luke at 1/50), Obi-Wan Kenobi (at 5/4) and Anakin Skywalker (with more rewarding odds of 7/1). What separates the three Jedi knights in terms of odds isn’t immediately apparent, given that they all appear in spirit form at the end of Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, so a stake on one might justify a stake on the other two.
