Playtech Slot Claims UK Record £4.5m Mobile Jackpot

Software developer Playtech revealed in January that it had become a UK record holder of the largest-ever mobile win after a player in Scotland won £4.5 million on one of its mobile slot games.

What made the story even more incredible was that the Gala Bingo player had wagered just £4 to win the jackpot, while enjoying a few spins with Playtech’s Jackpot Giant slot.

Glasgow Librarian Wins Big

The player's identity has been kept anonymous, but Playtech and Gala Bingo announced that the winner was a Glasgow resident working in one of the city’s libraries, and that, surprisingly, she decided to go back to work the very next day.

The winning librarian had been a Gala Bingo player for three years when she played the game that would change her life. Not long after logging in for a session of Jackpot Giant on her Android smartphone, she triggered the progressive jackpot. Sharing her reaction with Gala Bingo, she explained that “It’s still sinking in and my family and I are still in a complete state of shock”.

Playtech COO Shimon Akad stated in an official press release that “To claim the UK mobile slot jackpot record is fantastic”, and that it proves the developer “[leads] the industry when it comes to progressive jackpot games”.

Gala Coral Brand Director Alison Digges added that the victory was “Our biggest-ever jackpot win on Gala Bingo by far”. Digges also reiterated the slot’s widespread appeal, explaining that “Jackpot Giant is one of our most popular progressive games”.

Jackpot Giant’s Appeal

Video slot Jackpot Giant uses 3D visuals to tell the story of an enormous giant who is searching for jackpots in erupting volcanoes. Playtech’s developers designed Jackpot Giant to have five reels and three rows that combine to display 15 symbols on each spin. Players then have the opportunity to win across 50 active paylines.

The Jackpot Giant feature, which is the centrepiece of the game, is bound to draw yet more attention after the £4.5m jackpot. Anyone playing for the jackpot has to place a maximum bet and land five wild symbols on the first payline to win.

Then there is Giant Bonus, which is a side game that is triggered when two bonus symbols land simultaneously on reels one and five. The side game begins by displaying six volcanoes on the screen. Players then get to choose three volcanoes to reveal winnings, or they can try their luck with Extra Pick or Win ‘Em All options.

Playtech: A Progressive Leader

Playtech’s progressive slot games have a proven record of delivering enormous jackpots. The developer’s largest-ever progressive win came when a player claimed £6.2 million from the Beach Life slot in 2012. And now, this latest victory sees the omni-channel software developer holding the UK record for the largest mobile slot jackpot.

Playtech's record €4.5 million payout is the UK's largest mobile jackpot ever but fell short of the world record. That record is held by NetEnt who paid out a whopping €5.6 million to a lucky Swede who secured the unbelievable jackpot playing the Mega Fortune slot game at Leo Vegas Mobile.

Despite falling a little short of the world record, 2016 has got off to a good start for Playtech, whose progressive jackpots saw approximately 20,850 monthly and 695 daily winners last year. The developer currently has an industry-leading suite of 70 progressive games – visit Gala Casino today to try one of the many progressive titles.
