Yggdrasil Earns Slot Provider Honors at EGR B2B Awards 2017

Swedish games developer Yggdrasil Gaming has come up trumps, taking the honours in the 'Slot Provider of the Year' category of the 2017 EGR B2B Awards. The achievement is doubly satisfying for the software developer, as Yggdrasil won in the same category at last year’s event.

On both occasions Yggdrasil managed to beat off some stiff competition, including big names such as NetEnt, Microgaming and Playtech, to scoop the coveted prize. The judges were impressed by the high-quality slots Yggdrasil has produced over the years, including games such as Chibeasties and Vikings Go Wild!

Retaining The Title

Yggdrasil’s CEO, Fredrik Elmqvist, explained the excitement of the provider's team of developers and staff after hearing about the second straight win:

"Winning 'Slot Provider of the Year' at the EGR B2B Awards two years running is a tremendous achievement and shows just how far we have come in a short space of time. Retaining this huge award shows we’re doing the right things – producing high-quality slots with outstanding graphics, supported by the most creative in-game promotional tools on the market, and all built on our solid and mobile-friendly platform."

Elmqvist went on to thank everyone who helped reach this milestone:

"I’d like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to make this possible. We’ve got an absolutely brilliant team and retaining this award will only spur us on to work even harder to create the very best products for our customers."

From Mythical Tree To Money Spinner

The consecutive wins were foreshadowed by the 2015 EGR B2B Awards, when Yggdrasil was named 'Software Rising Star'. Yggdrasil takes its name and logo from the gigantic tree of Norse mythology that connects all nine realms, from Asgard to Niflheim. Yggdrasil’s wins are even more notable as the company received its first licence in 2013.

It proved to be an ideal time to enter the market, as a year later many companies were having to make the difficult transition from Flash-based games to HTML software that could be supported by mobile devices. As well as HTML, Yggdrasil also deployed a set of promotional software tools, collectively known as Boost.

These allowed online casinos to better gauge how players were interacting with the games on their site. The data could then be used to run in-game networked campaigns, offering players access to their progress statistics in the way video games do, enriching their overall gaming experience.

Returning To Its Swedish Roots

Although Yggdrasil is Swedish, it is headquartered in the gaming capital of Malta, with additional offices in another gaming hub, Gibraltar, as well as a major development office in Krakow, Poland. In late 2016, Yggdrasil formed a new parent company, to be based in Stockholm, to help expand its presence in Sweden. Elmqvist commented on the restructuring, saying:

"We are hugely excited to be establishing a new epicentre for Yggdrasil in Stockholm, the hometown of many of our team and a key centre of igaming excellence, and we will now start recruiting. With the maturity and consolidation of the industry in Stockholm, it is now the right time for Yggdrasil to enter the stage and provide something fresh."

Other Notable EGR B2B Award Winners

Although Yggdrasil managed to beat fellow Swedish company NetEnt (formally Net Entertainment) for 'Slot Provider of the Year', NetEnt did not go home empty handed. The long-established gaming company left the EGR B2B Awards with a trio of trophies, namely 'Mobile Supplier of the Year', 'RNG Casino Supplier of the Year', and 'Innovation in RNG Casino Software'.

NetEnt has been pushing the envelope on innovation within the gaming industry, making huge strides in the world of virtual reality. NetEnt CEO Per Eriksson said after the win:

"We are especially delighted as these awards for mobile, RNG casino and innovation represent the core areas of our business."

However, it was another industry giant, Playtech, that was the toast of the evening. The company collected five awards, with the pinnacle being 'Platform of the Year'. The other awards were 'Multi-channel Supplier of the Year', 'Bingo Supplier of the Year', 'Poker Software of the Year', and 'Poker Network of the Year'.

In addition, Quickspin, a company recently acquired by Playtech, won the 'Innovation in Mobile Casino' award, rounding off an amazing evening for the Isle of Man firm. To enjoy Yggdrasil games to see what all the hype is about, head over to LeoVegas today!
