The two most popular lottery draws in the US, Mega Millions and Powerball, are well-known around the world for frequently featuring jackpots well into the hundred millions but never did this occur at the exact same time. That's right, players have a chance to play for more than a $350 million jackpot on either of the major US lotteries for the first time ever!
This past Wednesday night, the Powerball, like every other Wednesday and Saturday night, was drawn and this time it was to win a $307 million jackpot [winning numbers = 12, 30, 36, 47, and 62 + 9]. Thursday it was announced there were no winners so this Saturday's Powerball will be for $356 million.
The Mega Millions is drawn on Tuesday and Fridays. It's latest draw on Tuesday was for $350 million [11, 17, 50, 52 and 74 + 14] but it was discovered that too had no winners, bumping the jackpot up to $382 million for Friday's draw. That puts both draws over $350 million for this weekends draws, a feat never reached by both simultaneously.
The actual jackpot of $350 million (£269/€298 million) isn't all that eye-catching considering how high these two draws consistently reach as well as how huge the jackpots got in just the last year since a rule change. Both lotteries have reached well over $350 million for a jackpot but just never at the same time.
The Powerball was offering a record setting $1.6 billion jackpot just last year in January. The life-changing, and one-time unfathomable, some of cash was won and split by three Americans in February of 2016. And that's not just a fluke, the Powerball has crossed a half-billion multiple times.
The Mega Millions lottery draw is also no slouch when it comes to mind-blowing jackpots. The US-based draw, and former record holder for largest jackpot ever won, recently saw their own jackpot top $500 million and that wasn't the first time by any means, so both draws topping $350m at the same time is just another headline.
To lottery players outside the US, the over £269/€298 million up for grabs on each draw this weekend is huge considering the largest EuroMillions jackpot ever won was €190 million back in 2012 and the largest EuroJackpot jackpot was €90 million in May of 2015. Thankfully, living outside the US doesn't mean players have to miss out!
Thanks to lottery syndicate services like GiantLottos and TheLotter, players the world over can participate in all the largest lottery draws, including the coveted US lotteries like Powerball, Mega Millions and even the state-level draws like the New York Lotto. Unfortunately, increased access means even worse odds of winning.
Currently, the odds of winning the Mega Millions sits at an astonishing 1 in 258.9 million which is somehow even less than the Powerball odds which is being reported at 1 in 292.2 million. Fortunately, for the first time ever players can buy tickets for each draw this weekend which will ultimately increase your odds a bit. Simply visit TheLotter today and use their services to get a ticket for both draws this weekend!
