Winner Announced for Largest Ever EuroMillions Jackpot

Lottery players have been involved in a frenzy of ticket buying in recent weeks, chasing the EuroMillions jackpot that kept on rolling over and over. But for now, the chase for riches is over. The EuroMillions Jackpot has been won.

The sum was so big that the winner could have walked into the United Kingdom's 2017 Rich List, except for the fact that they were based in Spain. The lottery also witnessed potentially record breaking numbers of online tickets being purchased in the days and hours before the jackpot draw.

Spanish EuroMillions Winner Lands £168million Jackpot

Anyone harbouring dreams of winning the EuroMillions rollover had their hopes dashed recently, after a single Spanish player scooped the record-breaking £168million (€190million) payout on 24 October 2017. The jackpot pool had been progressively building, following the lack of tickets matching five numbers and two lucky stars, since the start of September.

While top prize didn't go to any player in the UK, it wasn't all bad news for Brits. Indeed, four UK ticket holders each won a very sizeable £900,571 for matching the five winning numbers (01, 09, 15, 19 and 25) and one of the lucky stars (01 and 07).

EuroMillions Jackpot Draw Saw a Rush of Ticket Sales

Following the jackpot win, EuroMillions operator Camelot revealed that an estimated 26,000 tickets per minute were sold, with both online lottery and offline shops seeing a rush of trade.

And thanks to the jackpot reaching its maximum, the company noted that there's plenty of extra prize money to be paid out to the lower prize tier. Furthermore, Andy Carter, the National Lottery's senior winners' adviser, urged people to check their tickets to check for winning numbers:

"The extraordinary sum would be life-changing whether won by an individual or syndicate, and we have plenty of champagne on ice ready to celebrate. It would enable them to transform their life, as well as the lives of their friends and family, and we are ready to support them from the moment they claim.”

Carter also revealed the excellent charity work being done, thanks to people buying online lottery tickets:

"This EuroMillions roll series has seen players raise an amazing £55 million for National Lottery Good Causes in just a month. This supports projects big and small across the country, including funding everything from local community projects to the nation's amazing Olympic and Paralympic athletes."

EuroMillions Making People as Rich as Famous Celebrities

Most people who build million pound businesses or achieve the riches of fame put in decades of hard graft – and the cliché, 'There's no such thing as get rich quick', holds true for most. However, this isn't the case for anyone who wins a big EuroMillions rollover jackpot, since it can instantly propel someone straight into the 'Rich List'.

The most well publicised list of wealthy people is the Sunday Times Rich List, published once a year. It currently features celebrities including David and Victoria Beckham, Formula One Champion Lewis Hamilton and Jamie and Jools Oliver.

In the UK during 2017, the biggest EuroMillions jackpot so far has been £87 million – merely enough to be a Rich List 'nearly made it'. The Times only features those with at least a cool £100 million in the bank. However, scooping a monster £168 million jackpot would indeed see someone matching household name celebrities, instantly ranking them among the top 700 richest people in the United Kingdom.

In 2017, Lewis Hamilton's net worth was estimated at £130 million – so lucky winners would have no trouble roaring past him on the motorway in a more expensive car. Equally, holders of the jackpot ticket could secure a VIP table at a swanky Mayfair restaurant and get it cooked for them by Jamie Oliver (after all, his family is only worth £151 million).

However, winners would need a little bit of savvy investment advice to keep up with the Beckhams, whose projected £300 million fortune keeps on growing. Of course, everything is relative. Even a massive winning EuroMillions lottery ticket is almost insignificant to the billionaires towards the top of the Times Rich List.

In fact, number one on the list is Sri and Gopi Hinduja, whose wealth comes from industry and finance. The brothers are estimated to have a net worth of £16,200,000,000 (yes, that's 16 billion, plus the little 200 million on the side).

Still, when it comes to instantly getting rich, the lottery is realistically the only way to do it. With five UK lottery players winning EuroMillions jackpots so far this year, there are still a few months left for the rest of us to make the 2018 Rich List. Head over to GiantLottos today to be with a chance to win the next big jackpot.
